It is also interesting to see the clear 3 groups in these predictions - top 4, mid-table and bottom 4
Paddy Power also reflects these groups in the betting odds - even to the extent that the order of the top 4 and bottom 4 are exactly the same as the composite foot.ie predictions.
Of course it wont work out that way!

Cups are impossible to predict. I'll say Derry for the FAI Cup, and Sligo for the League Cup.
My dotted lines above in the Premier Division are to show how I'm grouping teams. I think there will be very little between Dundalk, ourselves and Rovers for most of the season and any of the three of us could win the league.
I think Derry, Pats, Bohs and Sligo will be around a similar level this season and any of them could finish in fourth. I think Derry are an interesting side this year, R Patz might be the best striker in the league if he performs at previous levels, McBride is a very solid defender and I've always rated McGlynn. I toyed with putting them ahead of Pats but I think Pats defence gives them a slight edge.
I think Bohs overperformed last year and we will see a slight downturn from them, but they will still be a top half side. Sligo must surely recover.
Wexford will be relying heavily on Danny Furlong to keep them up. He has been a revelation in the First Division but he was absolutely terrible in his short time in Cork. I'd love to see him show he can do it in the Premier Division but he's going to need to be phenomenal to keep them up. I think it could be a tough season for them. Ledwith is a good signing but there is so little experience in that side. I think after 3 or 4 games they will realise how tough the step up is going to be.
Wexford is well worth the trip if any Premier Division fans are considering making their first journey.
And now Mick Wallace is on tv in his Wexford jersey.

Interesting EL P you go for 2nd spot given the bullish display today by Cork. I have to say I was very impressed by you all over the park, first to most balls and very well organised. However no points on offer and it obviously all kicks off next weekend, and the next game between Cork and Dundalk is actually not that far off, 18th March, in oriel park.
There is no doubt Dundalk were very poor today, however it's very clear Cork have improved too, so for me it will be a much closer league this season, if we win it, it definitely won't be by 11 points that's for sure.
Rovers appear to be the dark horse this year, they don't appear to be stronger, but Fenlon will have them well set up and they will challenge. Pats might also have a bit to say, and Bohs will be hard to beat.

I find it very difficult to ever predict success for us. As I said above, the top 3 could be interchangeable, so thats about as close as I'm going to get to predicting a title for us.
Today was a good day for us, but it counts for little. A loss would have been a huge blow to us though so at the very least we've avoided that. I love the balance of the midfield trio we played today, and I love how strong our bench was. I'm not sure if Turner and Dooley will play regularly, but they are definitely interesting options. I'd see Beattie and Sheppard as the regular wide players. We'll need to avoid injuries at the back, if we can do that then we have every chance.

If Rovers are dark horses, they are the darkest oh horses, in my view. For comparisons with the league " over the water", I'd compare us to Spurs* in the last 50 years. We flatter to decieve, and lack the required backbone to push us to success. And nutsy is in the realms of living off past glories at this stage.
* - not this years side!!

I can see Dundalk falling away a little this year and expect Rovers and Cork to be more consistent. Positions 4-9 in the premier division could be in any order, and if any of them get a particularly strong start there might even be a chance to break out and challenge for the title.
The first also looks like it could be very unpredictable. A lot of expectation on Limerick, and they haven't dealt very well with high expectations in the past, Drogheda look like they'll be strong and with less expected from them they might take the automatic promotion spot. Shels and UCD should be solid too and any one other than Cabinteely and probably Athlone could realistically have a chance if they can gather momentum. It should be a very interesting season.

Have Pats lost all their players with half of these predictions?
We've shed a lot of players. That might not be a bad thing however. We've some interesting new faces coming in, a strong looking defence and have held on to Christy Fagan, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Don't see us winning it but we might be 2/3. Have a feeling it might be Corks year. Bolgers a superb signing for them. Three in a row is a big task for Dundalk, Rovers seem to be pretty stagnant, and I think Bohs may have over achieved last year. Bray could be the surprise package. Can only see Wexford and Harps battling for the drop.

Did quite well last year with both divisions and top scorers , 4 out of 4, mind ya:D.............so here goes for 2016
Dundalk again to win, Horgan will be banging in the goals (22/1)..........
I also expect Bray W to continue where they left off last season..............really see them pushing for a top 5 .....
I have backed Longford to be relegated (11/2), half the team is gone, and i dont rate Cousin's at all.
I am going to stick my neck out for the First and go for Shels, they have really strengthened since last year, had a good pre season, got a decent striker.
My head says UCD, but i have a soft spot for Shels (15/2)
K M Waters at 10/1 for top scorer is nice

Bray to finish 2nd......
The Indo has a decent two page colour preview on the 2016 season in today’s paper. Daniel McD has gone for 1.Dlk, 2.Rovers 3.Cork 4.Pats.
After seeing most of last week’s Presidents Cup game I wouldn’t have put Cork as 3rd.
I still think Dundalk will win it, but it will be back to 2014 narrow margins if we do.
