My personal choice would be Loft Holdings Wood by Microdisney.

Green Fields of France by Fureys
The Hucklebuck
Possibly wouldn't qualify seen as
(a) it's not Irish
(b) it's not from the last 25 years
Technicalities, I know.

I aint voting in no TodayFM poll as I'm sure they'll give it to some U2 song. probably one of their mopier ones ...'One' most likely. y'wanna hear a real song called 'One' -check out Metallicas (written 5 years before U2s) tune of the same name ...now that's a piece of rocknroll.
Not Irish though -so i'll split my vote four ways between Phil Lynotts 'Old Town', Andy White's 'Religious Persuasion', The Golden Hordes '100 Boys' and Microdisneys 'Town To Town'.
Ray Houghtons not Irish but I dont see anyone else clamouring to have that 1-0 stricken from the history books
:p

I'll continue to split the Microdisney support and go for Begging Bowl.

 By 'anyone else' are you saying that I am?
Fair enough, Brendan Boyer and the royal showband released the song, I'll give you that much.
It was still at least Thirty Five years ago

(a) Eh Brendan Bowyer is from Waterford boy, the song was written by Yanks!
(b) Correctumundo :p
WITH OR WITHOUT YOU by U2... hard to argue with a U.S. #1 on the Billboard Charts ! ;)

There's too many brilliant tracks that even the greats are forgettable.
For eg. Heard Mary while ago on the bus home.
Great bit o song-writing.

Ok, I was trying to over-emphasise for effect. My humblest apologies to both yourself and wws.
Still about 40 years old though.
As for my choice, I could give a different answer to that question every day.
Yesterday it was MBV - Sometimes.

I am reliably informed that his passport says he is Irish!... Are you calling the Department of Foreign Affairs liars? :D
Always remember only 2 kinds of people in the world ; 1) The Irish 2) those who wish they were :p
Would "Rainy Night in Soho" count as an Irish song?

Ghost of a Chance by The Blades.
To me the best Irish single of all time, but then again some crappy sentimental Bono/U2, Boyzone or Westlife trip will get it.
Whats the bet Daniel O'Donnell or Joe Dolan will be in the running.
P.S. I forgot, Teenage Kicks - The Undertones :p
RIP John Peel.

How the Blades failed to break internationally is one of the great injustices of popular music. Which is why I like football more than music.... it rewards talent more than music does and is less susceptible to fashionable trends.
The only reason I did not suggest the Blades myself is I am torn between about three of their songs.. Downmarket and The Last Man In Europe are a bit special too.
Teenage Kicks I love because even I can play the bar chords to that one on a guitar :p
