Al Finucane it was, with the Blues against Bordeaux. I think that the record is still the European one, though I haven't checked in a while.

Right, suppose I should put one up so. This is courtersy of CollegeTillIDie -

Name four players to have played League of Ireland who also played in the 1966 World Cup Final.

Cork fans shouldn't find this too hard...

Screw this, I want to know who the others are, and people seem to have forgotten to answer it.

Bobby Charlton was one, I think. Was Cohen, of Everton at the time, one of the others?

Gordon Banks played for Pats

Uwe Seeler turned out for Cork Celtic in the late seventies, I believe.

Just Googled it, http://www.google.ie/search?q=cache:RXiCVPRbnosJ:www.asv.de/inhalte/passage/inhalte/ausstell/aktuell/pdf/pressemappe_seeler.pdf+%22uwe+seeler%22+cork+celti c&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 would seem (to this non-German-speaker) to confirm that he did.

That's three of them alright. One more...

Incidentally, that German bit translates as "Appearance for Cork Celtic FC in an Irish Premier Division league game against Shamrock Rovers (lost 2-6, scored twice)

Thr fourth, incidentally, is Geoff Hurst, who played about three games for Cork (can't remember which one) in the late 70s.

I fully realise that I haven't answered a question recently, or even been on the site to do so, but I just have to ask this one.

Q: Before the former Yugoslavia broke up into Serbia, Croatia etc, who did they play their last international against and what was the score?

Cityace

1966 World Cup?

And for the Yugoslavia one - was it a 3-1 or 4-1 away win over Austria in Euro '92 qualifying?

In terms of senior international competitions, I think it was the 1970 World cup Finals (memories of Peter Brackley on a dodgy video of the tournament saying "An new system of coloured cards has been introduced... this time it's a Yellow!")

Otherwise, I don't know.

That's probably right actually - yer man Rattin was just pointed off the pitch against England rather than red-carded.

Not by a mile.
One hint: it was after the '92 Euros had been played.
Anyone who saw the documentary on RTÉ a few weeks back would know the answer to this one.

Yeah, I remember watching that alright - maybe Austria was the last competitive game they played in their group. Don't know that one so...

I believe it was Fabio Liverani of Perugia as recently as last year. I don't want to split hairs on this important issue, but Liverani is actually mixed-race rather than Black.

Although academic in approach, the following link from the Sir Norman Chester Centre for Football Research provides an excellent summary of the impact of Black players in British football. Well worth a read.

I posted this elsewhere yesterday, and given the nature of this thread thought it might be worthwhile to repeat it here.

Goin back to a question a while back about a the team with the lowest points in a Premier league it was in the Greek league, and it was -65pts. Cant remember the name of the team but anyway it was -3 for each case of financial irregularities.

There was a match called The Fateful Final, what was this match and why? Anybody worth there salt should get this.

Brazil v Uruguay, Rio 1950. Brazil massive favourites to win world cup lost final group match (which was basically the World Cup Final) i think 2-0. The Brazilian public took it really badly with quite a number of suicides....

Coltron
29/10/2003, 4:57 PM
Thats the one, but it was 2-1 and thats really what spurs Brasil on in football its was seen as a national tragedy, some countries go to mourn wars and famine, they mourn that final.

dont forget to post ur question.

Ok heres a question, who is the only player to win the player of the year in england and scoltland?

Plastic Paddy
30/10/2003, 2:25 PM
That would be wee Gordie Strachan - he won the Scottish version in 1980 whilst with Aberdeen and the English version in 1992 as a Leeds United player.

My question - which is the only club in the English leagues to score six in a League game and still lose?

Indeed you are sir. :)

Time for a harder one then. What is the ever lowest attendance at an English League game and which clubs were playing?

13 between Shrewsbury and Lincoln?

Remember hearing of a game like that in the 70s - was supposed to be behind closed doors or something.

In recent years, Wimbledon's 800-odd against Rotherham is head and shoulders below anyone else!

Close but no cigar, Stu. 13 is indeed the correct number, but for a match between Stockport County and Leicester City in Division Two on 7 May 1921. The match was played at Old Trafford because the Stockport ground was under suspension at the time.
