Wouldn't be Carlton Palmer by any chance, would it? :D

Southampton, Notts Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Leeds. (not Barnsley, according to CM anyway)

This thing still going on? If so here's a question...

Name the man with the best goals per minutes played ratio for the Republic Of Ireland senior team?

Tony Cascarino? David Kelly? Paddy Moore?

Or is this some obscure person who played once for five minutes and managed to score?

Are we talking post-86?

Slash/ED

He's post 86 alright, and it's one of those you'll kick yourselves when you hear the answer type. I'll tell you this much, he's still playing professional football, recently signed for a new club in fact.

The distinction actually belongs ( <--- only pedants start sentences with this phrase) to Jimmy White of Bohemians, who scored two goals in Ireland's 4-2 win against Belgium in 1934. It was his only cap, and he finished his international career with an impressive average of two goals per game.

Erm...that'll teach me to be a smart-ass. White's is certainly a goals PER GAME record, but it's fairly safe to assume that Barrett's is the goals per minute record.

Sheridan - you're certainly wrong on the year - no idea on the player. I do know we played Belgium in 1934 at Dalyer in a world cup qualifer but drew 4-4 with Paddy Moore scoring all 4. Led the Dutch 2-1 in Amsterdam with 20 minutes to go too but lost and missed on a trip to Italy. Legend has it Paddy drank 2 pints of Guinness in the Dalymount bar at half time ignoring the team talk.

We did beat Belgium away in 28 and 30 and by 4-2 in one of those games - no idea of the goalscorers but would have the info at home. We also met Belgium in 1929 in Dublin.

Hi Gary - you're right as usual. The game in question took place on the 12th of February 1928, and the scorers, according to kickin, were Jimmy White of Bohemians (who definitely scored two goals in this, his only international), Billy Lacey of Shelbourne and Jack Sullivan of Fordsons.

cheers Sheridan, 1928 - was that the last time a Bohs player scored twice in a game? :D :D :D :D

Kerotan of Slovenia were relegated to Division 5 after 11 games of their 33 game campaign. At this stage, after initial points deductions, they had three points. If you penalise them 3 points per game they subsequently had to forfeit, that gives them -63 points.

Any good?

its lower. and btw its a First Division club from a fairly good league

When you say First Division, you mean top flight or the next one down?

Stupid people inventing Premier Divisions and all... ;)

How about Monaco? They were relegated for financial problems - if you give them -3 points for every game, it comes to something fairly low. Although they did avoid relegation on appeal, so that's probably not it.

Lommel in Belgium were also relegated, and some Swiss team too (that could have been the season before though). Lommel got 23 points, but again, -3 for each game forfeited would be low enough.

Am I even on the right track with automatic relegations and forfeits?

Remember hearing about some under-age team in England who were top of their league until the league found out that one of their players was two months too old and so they got docked 3 points for every game he'd played! First to last 'cos of a couple of months!

England with 4 - Liverpool, aston Villa , Manyoo & Nottm Forest.

BTW roma never won it - only 3 in Italy that I can think of Milan, inter & juve.

you could say the UK with 5 if you include celtic.
