Nobody wants to see the team lose so I'm happy to be proven wrong when we win games. Tonight, all over them, can't score, lose 1-0. It's something we're gona see a lot of unless we sign 2 more defenders. Think about it another way, Limerick are the big dogs in Div.1, teams will set up to defend and hit us on the break. Our defenders can't cope with that, or attackers aren't good enough to unlock that.

Personally I think squad wise right now we should be winning the league even with agreeing we could do with a CB or two. My biggest concern is actually the manager, in this league with people sitting back as others have mentioned we are going to need plan b and even plan c at times in all his time with us I don't think Russell has ever shown this. Now maybe it was because of the squad he had to work with at the time and it may not be a problem with such a strong squad compared to what we are up against in this league but something worth keeping an eye on imo.
I don't want to be unfair on him either though because I definitely think the delaying in being able to finish his squad has hindered him again I still think at least one player maybe two that will be regular starters in our team this season haven't even been signed yet and he hasn't been able to get what will be our starting team if all available against UCD out together in pre season at all hopefully Saturday against Galway.

Only one sub Garbhan Coughlan for Ross Mann.
At the time of the change Ross Mann was wide right Greene was up top Mulhall was wide left and Lee J through the centre.
When the change was made Greene went wide left Lee J went wide right Mulhall went up top and Garbhan went through the centre! Absolutely killed us for at least ten minutes.
The mind does boggle at times.

Keith Ward signed for Derry. Should have tied him down weeks ago.

Not sure how true it is but was told it was Russell that made the decision he didn't want him. That Jordan Moore still not announced wonder has it actually happened.

I'd say it was Russell alright but I still feel we should have signed him up. Probably got Greene instead. Only just over a week to sign a centre back so at the moment it looks like we are going to go into the season with what we have.

Sharkey still training with us I think so if he plays tomorrow could be signed up before next week. Would definitely have signed Ward can cover anywhere across midfield including in behind strikers where Lee J plays.

That Kyle Mcleod looked impressive when he came on. Would like to see him signed up.

Good performance and a good win last night. Russell MIGHT have filled the gap with those signings, if he's got em all over the line. Coughlan looked lively and nice to see Fergal score on his Markets Field debut.

The only worry at the moment is having Kelly back and is O'Flynn fit and injury free.
O'Connor can fill in RB and Garbhan can play up top but we will be stuck on the bench.
I still think we should be going into the season fearing no one. We need teams to be fearing playing us, not the other way around. No panicking either, a lot of games to be played throughout the season.

Already had people tell me the UCD game is a must win. Now while it would be a fantastic start to beat a team who will more than likely be up there challenging with us first game of the season is hardly must win.

McLeod's ability to carry the ball forward on the break was hugely impressive last night and led to the third goal.
The goal we conceded was an absolute shocker though. Massive gap between Robbie Williams and Shane Tracy for their right full, Horgan, to play the ball into. And attempting to play offside with no pressure on the ball is criminal.
Treaty Gooner received plenty of criticism in here for pointing out Limerick's defensive frailties, comparing them unfavourably to a Limerick Premier side.
As someone who sees more of that standard than most, on the basis of that goal, he wouldn't be far wrong. And that was the more experienced side of the defence too. Meanwhile, young McCartan and Sharkey were impeccable on the right of the four.

He said they wouldn't win 1A.
Everyone agrees we needed strengthening in defence.

He was over-exaggerating to make a point, admittedly.
The crux of his argument - that Limerick wouldn't win the league with the defence they had at that point - was one that didn't deserve the level of mob adversity it received. And the manner of the concession yesterday bears that out.
While the signing of Sharkey should make a difference (on the basis of last night), there is still a ways to go in regard to recruitment in that area.
As everyone agrees :)

Few days to go for kick off against probably one of our main rivals for promotion.
Anyone care to guess Russell starting 11 for Saturday?

Tough one to call as we could be missing 3 or 4.

Ya very hard to call. We haven't started the same 11 yet so who knows what's best.
Hall
Paudie
Sharkey
Williams
Tracey
Duggan
O'Connor
Lynch
Up top you could have 3 from Mulhall, Coughlan, O'Flynn, Kenny, McLeod(if signed in time) and Greene.
That should certainly be strong enough to pick up 3 points.

Think you have to play Paul O Connor right full for the big boy stuff now. Anyone else that's put there could get fairly badly exposed if ucd are half decent.
I'd go:
Hall
O Connor
Sharkey
Williams
Tracy
Duggan
Lynch
Greene
Kenny
Mulhall
O Flynn

Was told Greene could be suspended for UCD.
