According to the Ultras Message Board...

Mark will be signing for Culchie Bohs later this week. They offered him twice what Rovers did. The thoughts of a guaranteed non rubber cheque every week probably helped his decision.

It will be torture watching Mark get stuck in to our midfield next season. The irony of all this is that Roddy will probably sign some English players and we'll end up paying them almost as much and covering flight and / or accommodation costs.

Great signing, if true. The rumour has been doing the rounds since last year anyway....

He's definitely been a target for Alan anyway so hopefully he's coming. Alan is away at the moment I think, so if it's done it'll probably be next week before he signs, again if it's done. Roddy is very keen to acquire McGovern, it was he who sabotaged the Newry move apparently, warning Newry that McGovern was a troublemaker then when they cool their interest he comes in for him, typical Roddy

Looking more likely to go to Bohs it seems now. Unfortunate, but we probably can't afford to get in a bidding war with Bohs. Him and Deano would've been an excellent pairing.

Maybe UEFA Cup/Setanta Cup football might swing it, that was one of the initial reasons he was quite interested in coming. I can't imagine Bohs would be paying a fortune either given their circumstances, but you're right we cant afford a bidding war

how many goals did he score last year?

never noticed him v us last year, and a post on the bohs board says something similar

mediocre to average journeymen players seem to be getting a lot more money - thats not progress

According to the Ultras message board Mark O'Brien's been offered €1k a week by Bohs and €800 a week by Drogs, I don't see us going near that and I wouldnt want to see us paying him that, good player though he may be.

Spanner in the works with regard to MOB. Apparently Rovers are due and are looking for compensation. Bohs can't afford compensation, and are offering a deal involving rent of Dalymount instead.

If he's been on pro terms for two seasons they'll be due compo alright, don't think he'll be coming our way, we've paid all the transfer fees we can afford I'd imagine, I'd be very surprised if there's fees involved for anyone else we bring in

swap McGovern! simple really.

Longfordian

That was being talked about at one stage but I couldnt see Rovers accepting a straight swap

according to the Bohs supporter Chippie;

O'Brien won't be cheap either as he has turned down €800 into his hand with Longford.

he's not cheap. Must really fancy himself.

Come off it - 3 clubs fighting over him. Bohs willing to pay more obviously, just not the fee to Rovers. Besides, I read on one of the boards he's got that whole not wanting to play for a non-Dublin team thing going on as well...

I'm surprised we offered him that much if we did offer it, probably the competition jacking the price up, good deal looming for him considering he's part time

great money for a largely anonymous player
