When United won the treble in '99. A lot of the goals scored in European competition came through a David Beckham crosses and set-pieces, and he chipped in a few free kicks himself too over the season. Whatever his lackings, the lad also works extremely hard when he's on the pitch.
In the 2-2 drawn game against Greece where they Qualified for WC2002, Beckham was brilliant, the only player on the pitch that night that looked like he deserved to grace the World Cup.

I reckon a lot of people don't like the man rather than the footballer. I, for one, think he was an excellent player but has certainly gone downhill in the past 2-3 years. He fancies himself as a centre midfielder which he isn't. His performances for England have been very poor of late apart from his goal against Wales.
I don't think been married to Boxers Nose Spice helps either. Shes a media whore of the highest order, has not talent what so ever and just pushes him into everything. If he spent more time concentrating on football rather than endorsements he may regain what he had playing on the right side of midfield.

he's a decent player, and a decent guy, blessed with an excellent right foot. the problem is that he is being played in a defensive central midfield role, by a club who's defence really needs protecting- and he can't beat a man, he can't tackle and he just can't play centre-mid. Its not his fault he's played so badly recently, its Real's. But there's no way he's the third best player in the world. Never has been, never will be

He's as good as Lampard, or Lampard is as bad as Beckham (whatever way you want to put it). Frank Lampard... probably the most overrated player in the world.
