Final away game of the season (bus running check Facebook for details). Really confident we can repeat our big win up here from earlier in the year especially if sully and the rest of our attacking players preform like they did in cork!. Would like to see Hunt back in goal and maybe Mulhall at full back but bar that same team again please. Stop Treacy and we stop their only player in any sort of form at the minute. Win and we can finish 6th this season which should be the aim.

I wouldnt agree that Treacy is our one to watch. He can hardly run for one thing. Good at dead ball plays but I expect a big game from Thornton on Friday.

Our in form player is Schlingermann which says it all really.

Thornton gets wound up too easy as he showed by blasting a crucial peno over the bar the last time the 2 sides met. If Drogs score it will be a set piece or a long range goal.

I can't see how you can be so confident De Town have blown warm to freezing all season, yes on paper we should win but Mark Kinsella has them doing a lot better than Mc did,
if we manage a draw I'll be over the moon, Cousin will probably set up not to lose, and try to catch them on the break, I agree with you I hope Davey starts

Hope the Town fans give TC the send off he deserves in his last away match in charge of De Town! Then an even better one next week in his last home match in charge of us. Big name manager taking over next season if what I hear is true.

Wonder what price Shoddy is
0% chance of that ever happening.

We've come good and gotten the results when it was needed. TC and the lads should be lauded for this, 6th place would be a fine achievement all things considered, especially given how shaky everything seemed just a week ago. We could still finish 8th yet all the same. Delighted Shaw got some goals, deserves it. I do still hope that a managerial change is afoot, we need a breath of fresh air badly IMO, the last two results might paper this over, for some.

It'd be awful harsh in basic terms to let a manager go who got you promoted and into 6th/7th in his first year up. And yet I wouldn't cry about it if his replacement was right. I can see both sides and if the club stick with TC I won't be crying and moaning too much about that either. We'll see what happens next year.

I obvuisly won't be crying if cousins goes but what id want to know first is who's replacing him. You say a big name? I want that to be a big name of managerial quality and not just some poster boy or washed up former player. Better the devil you know. Squad will need major work though and maybe a new man is what's needed to build that, all though TC's record of swuad building is very strong. Haha I'm nearly leaning the way of Tony staying now it all just depends on who this so called big name is. Has Gillespie his badges lads? I'd fu(king crack up

I am not goin to get involved in speculation! all I am goin to say is that I am delighted that Gary Shaw is finally up and running after going 31 matches without a goal!

I see in todays independent that we are linked with Brays Niall Cooney. Anyone know anything of him?

As I've said in other threads, he keeps hitting the targets set. If we finish top half, he's probably exceeded (realistic) expectations. Whatever about not renewing, it'd be harsh to sack (can't remember what contract he's got off the top of my head). If he stays, it should be a wake up call regarding the style of football/ formation though.

Greatest league in the world though - 2 weeks ago we were in serious relegation bother, now we're safely top half!

As Outspoken said, TC's contract is up at end of season with the option of a further year, he will NOT be sacked. From what I heard it could possibly be TC who has decided he's been there too long. The board have been in contact with two managers (both out of managers positions at present) about the possibility of a vacancy coming up. But, a win or draw on Friday and thats 6th locked in. Jim gets on with TC and in fairness to TC he gets his budget at the start of the year and has never gone to Jim looking for more money. He has brought stability to the position and has gradually built a squad over the years even though there has been one or two collapses. If TC doesn't announce on Friday after the game he'll be around next season then both sides must be planning to part ways.

Interesting. I'd be pretty surprised if he walks away but maybe he wants a break and it would be a good time to leave in that he'd be leaving on a relative high. He's done a good job despite the frustrations we have with him and if he wanted to come back to football in future he'd generally be well regarded.

You can see that in the general forum. People from other clubs, just looking at results rather than performances, struggle to get their heads around the giving out about him.

Cousins still not committed but is leaning towards signing a new contract. There's a new contract for him just waiting on his decision but word coming from the dressing room tonight is that he'll sign it. I'm not his biggest fan of his team selection and tactics but he deserves another season to see can he improve on this year.

Just heard Cousins has taken up the option of the 1 year contract.

Seeing as we'vs come 6th, he deserves it, hopefully we can continue the steady squad improvement and maybe add a little depth for next season.

Would love of we started playing a bit more football all the same.

Can't disagree with TC staying as I said above. As Macy said he's hit his targets and arguably over achieved this year in the end. Helped by the end of the season but those games carry the same points as the rest.

Is it realistic for him to improve on sixth? I know the seven-team relegation battle means final positions don't mean a lot, but realistically he's finished ahead of at least three better-resourced teams. He may decide he's done as much as he can with Longford, and I'd say there'd be some teams who'd want him to take over.

Town Legend
31/10/2015, 7:18 AM
Well he's signed on for another year so if some club do want him they'll have to stump up a bit of cash which to be honest won't happen.

On improving things I don't mean break into the top 4. Even another 6th place finish but a better points haul would be an improvement. Not going into our last 3 games with a serious threat of relegation hanging over us, only for our last 3 games we won we were right down there and shouldn't forget that. But I think a 5th place isn't out of reach once the right players are re-signed and depending on who's brought in. All talk last year was survival and then push it on after that, and that was from the main sponsor. So this off season will be interesting to see if the money is there to upgrade the squad.

Time will tell.

So who would the rest of you keep and who do you see going for one reason or another?

Hunt - leaves, shouldn't have been dropped and I'd say travel is killing him.

Skinner - Had an awful season wouldn't keep him, we need an experienced keeper in.

Mulhall - With Pat Sullivan apparently retiring next year can be Jamie's year.

Rhys - Rumours that he's going to move closer to home so he can study on his final year in college. We need to do everything we can to keep him, player of the year.

Rossi - Hasn't spoke to Tony about next year yet but would like to stay and if he can stay fit he's a good asset to the club, a top notch bloke as well. Keep.

Havo - Good lad to have around the squad and club. Keep.

Flynn - When fit our best defender. let's see how it plays out, in an ideal world would like to keep him.

Powell - Had a good end to the season, keep.

Deady - Lovely lad but hasn't settled at all.

Don - People frustrated by his injuries but when Fit one of the most unique threats in the league with his pace and power. Keep.

Shannon - Again a lovely lad but at most a squad player.

Kev - The mans a joy to watch, sign him up for the rest of his days.

Salmo - Club legend in my eyes, shouldn't even be a question of him staying or not.

Rice - Retiring apparently

Gannon - Developing into a really good footballer, keep.

Kaleem - Linked to Derry

Ben Mohamed - Some people saying Wel do well to keep him but I don't think he was consistent enough to earn a big big move so hopefully we can enjoy another year of his skills. Massive year for him next season.

Doherty - Lol

Shaw - When used properly he's a great link up player and a goalscorer as he proved in last few games. Keep

Sully - Rumours that he's off, can't blame him he was treated shoddy this season. Still by far our number 1 striker. Hope he stays.

Kelly - You can see that touch of class in him and he scores goals, Keep him.

I'm sure I missed a few there.

from what I heard from a member of staff there are eight full time teams. part time teams are us,bohs, drogheda and bray wanderers. agree with that statement. I think the aim for next season is try and reduce the gap to Bohs. had heard rumours about ricer so not surprised he has come to the fore for the last few games.I really hope Sully doenst leave but I wouldnt blame him. Agree with Outspoken the goalkeeping situation has to be sorted and make your own mind up on who the no 1 should be. it is characteristic of TC of his goalkeepers that they play roughly the same amount of games as each other ie I was doing the appearance stats tonight and both Hunty and Skinner have made 21 appearances each.
