longford town are hot on thetrail of lithuania midfeilder tomas daumantas. daumantas who has being capped five times by his country is set to hook up with the midlanders for preseason with a view to a permanent move. And he could be joined by lance cronin who has fallen out of favour with ian dowie and is looking for a loan move.

longford boss alan matthews said of the daumantas link" his brother in law knows our club doctor and alerted us that this player is available.he is keen to come to ireland and we are going to have a look at him."

the29 year old is with german third division outfit sportfreunde spiegen but is out of contract in january. daumantas started his career at bundesliga giants schalke 04 and has since had spellsin belgium holland andaustira.

matthews added " i have being on the lookout for a central midfeilder. he has a good cv and maybe he could provide a solution for us."

goalkeeper cronin was a regular on the bench for palace last season but he did not play singleminute of first team football. any move is unlikely to happen until shortly before the new season but john mcnicholas should be on board before then.

athlone town boss stephen kelly is resigned to losing central midfielder. kelly said "johnhas being offered a deal by longford town on the say of aaron callaghan. this is a far better financial offer than i could even begin to compete with."

meanwhile it looks as though clyde has emerged as paul keegans preferred option. keegan moved to scotland on a temporary basis last week for personal reasons and trained with several clubs.

That's great news. You're spot on there. Technically good players are we need to bring the club on that step further and to progress in Europe. There are a very limited number of such players in the EL. This Palace number two will be still number two behind Digger though!

Hopefully, as we could with a player capable of delivering that killer final ball in the final third of the pitch. But a word to the wise,...Sini Savic anyone?
The last quality player to come to us via the bundesliga. :o

He is playing for FC Borac Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Check this (http://www.sinisavic.com/sinisa.htm) out.
If nothing else the guy has some confidence and is some self promoter

Yes, but if he's out of contract in 2005 that would make him a free agent this year so he probably is available, the only question is whether his contract is up in January or June 2005, that article says June, the original article in the Sun says January..To be honest all I know is that it's arranged for him to come over for pre-season, I know nothing about the chap, and going by his photo he doesnt look the most athletic..
