View Full Version : Promotion/Relegation play off
As I have said many times in the past I doubt anyone will be turned away.

Don't suppose there's anyone from Harps who'd like to stream this on periscope later...? :D

Lot of Harps pressure early on, 7 or so corners in first 20 minutes.

Limerick beating themselves.

Kanyuka messes up again, and Harps equalise.
Difficult enough listening to Mike Aherne on 95FM at the best of times but jaysus you'd be sick to the ears listening to the cliche clown with him Paul O'Donnell.Switching to Highland Radio for 2nd half.Expecting Harps to seal this early in 2nd half.

This is not one of their better days. Too busy celebrating just now to notice a goal had been disallowed for several seconds, very irritating. Limerick have upped their game a bit in the last few minutes, but seems like Harps have been much the better team overall.

The game is going as I thought. Russell is not pragmatic enough to set up his team to play on a pitch like this.
I'm just surprised that Harps have not taken the lead yet.

Extra time it is. Limerick have had a few great chances to win it, botched them all.

Extra time should be fun.

I was about to edit my post saying that Harps won't want a penalty shootout. :)

Congrats Harps! The great escape is off now. It was great to see the crowds turning out in the Markets Field but no doubt Finn Park will nice and busy next season either.

Limerick will be kicking themselves for not being further ahead going into tonight's game. Disaster for the Munster region this but on the other hand great to have harps back up and hopefully I get to visit there next year.
Limerick just have to look at the first 20 games with only 6 points. They gave it a right go in the end but wasn't to be

Didn't deserve to win. Had our chances. In this game, and during the course of the season. Finn Harps will be a good addition to the top tier.
I'd been resigned to relegation for a good chunk of the season, but still hard to contemplate after the last month or so. Post-mortem must be thorough and honest, at all levels, chairman, management, players.

Didn't see that coming before the first leg I have to say. Congrats Harps, themselves and Wexford coming up will freshen things up a bit. Limerick will be back.

Limerick club secretary to forensically examine Harps players registrations now, or is that just a Waterford tactic?

Congrats to Finn Harps, Ollie Horgan has done some job up there in the two years he's been in charge. A nice way for Kevin McHugh to end his career and long association with Harps.
Commiserations to Limerick. I thought after the lesson they gave us in Terryland a month back they'd hang on to their top flight status but it wasn't to be.

I think Martin Russel is the right type of manager to have a good go at promotion. Get a good defensive coach in though.

Playing out from the back, by players with poor technical ability, and on bad pitches?
Talk about starting with a handicap.

Dead right. Congrats to Harps, devestated tonight but Russell is the wrong man to get us back up. Won't compromise his preferred way of playing and that for me is why it took 21 games or whatever it was before we won a game.

Ach I think he would be pragmatic enough to do what is needed. There are a few ball playing sides and with clubs in the 1st Division next season Cabinteely would be the only place with a particularly bad pitch? Thankfully I dont know that for sure but there is no Gortakeegans these days.

Congratulations Harps and hard luck Limerick. Hopefully O'Sullivan doesn't pull the plug down there as there's potential for a big club if they can get back to the top level.

If Martin Russell is retained next season, I just...I don't know. I don't know why they would do that, other than there being literally no one better willing to take on the job. They cannot keep that man on, late (uncompleted) resurgence be damned.

He wasn't pragmatic in Finn Park. If he was, Limerick would still be a premier team.

Fair enough, without seeing the game i shouldnt be having a stab in the dark on Limericks performance or setup. They were within a few minutes though of a penalty shoot-out away to a side that were defensively sound. Limerick would have been vulnerable at the back ok. Not knowing if the pitch was heavy or anything either. Just from what was said on Radio Foyle at the end they seemed out on their feet but still managed a last couple of attacks. It was also commented on them starting to argue among themselves which is exactly what not to do when trying to retrieve the tie with 5 or so minutes to go.

Unfortunately Dundalk fans dont have to imagine a long drive home from Finn Park after a play-off game...

Yeah it can certainly be done if you have enough quality to overcome the war that the First can be. Strikers are key.

As much as I am in despair of the possibility of Russell staying on, I imagine the likely squad budget and the lackadaisical way Limerick tend to go about constructing a team in the off-season would leave any manager struggling to get promoted.
