Here's the new ''mascots'' for 2006...Its a terrible shame Ireland will win a World Cup with such bad mascots....Certainly must have a different sense of humour over there...

The Lion, The Rose, The white shirt.... Are the Fatherland having an identity crisis?
(is it too much to hope that the little ones called Alan?)

Are you nuts?
It looked like it would have fallen to bits if it actually kicked a ball.

I think we should do something about the plight of those poor former WC mascots - they get used up and spat out by the system.
A little dole queue with scraggy haired, bearded ex-mascots? :D
Do you think the new German one is a previous mascot in disguise?
World Cup Willie from 1966 perhaps?

What was the mascot in USA 94? Know France 98 was a cockerel and the Ciao from Italia 90.... anyone remember the Irish Opel wolfhound? What happened him?

totally agree, although it might be because Italia '90 was when I first really became aware of football! I was 8 at the time, and I remember being told that Ireland were in the World Cup Finals against England. Throughout the entire match, I thought it was the World Cup Final - I think I only realised that it wasn't when the next match came along (Egypt??)
The German Lion is a bit lame, really - could they not have come up with something better, like a giant mug of beer? ;)

usa 94 was a dog - fairly bland (not much imagination there)
remember the irish wolfhound alright - think they called it Mccúl or something like that!!

The old World Cup 90 binder was the businness and a bit of a money racket. Used to buy the suppliment every week and add them in and then buy the stickers. I still have it at home - might be worth something in years to come. The only team that I managed to get every sticker for was Ireland.
I actually got it as a Christmas present in 1989 - thats 15 years ago. Man I'm getting old.

jaysus i remember it ,
it was a ring binder with maradona on the front holding world cup (1986)
think i collected a few but think i found stickers too expensive for the pocket money i was on!

i was only 8 at the time - remember it was great craic swapping stickers
always the little rich kid in school had a massive hand-load of spares, us clever ones short a bit of pocket money always managed to swindle or nick the odd one!
didnt think theyd miss a gerry payton sticker or two!!

There was also a picture of Chris Hughton running after Ruud Gullit on the cover.

That lion looks Australian with his surfer-dude hair. There's no way he'll pass as a German, he looks too exciting and emotional.....

Still have two at home, Myself and my brother filled them, except for the odd rare one.. Nothing better than getting a shiney one in the pack, you'd get 3 normal ones in a swopsy for a shiney! :ball:
