Thats pretty good. I never realised we were ranked so lowly at the end of 98.

Ranked 6th in August 1993, that was impressive.

94/95 was a great period, ranked above England, I wonder when
we will be ranked above England again? (Hopefully next year).
We seem to be on a bit of a plateau now, ranked at about 15,
hopefully we can get back into the top 10.

Because of the strange mathematics used in these rankings, the Public v'Ireland enjoy an artificially elevated position due to their high placing in the original rankings list back in 1993-ish.

Get to Germany 2006 and reach the Quarter Finals , who knows we may make the top 10 again :) I think we have a great squad now and have a very good chance of doing that

When you look at where the likes of Scotland and Wales are we ain't doing
too bad, they are both comparable nations to Ireland.
Per head of population we must be one of the best sides in the world.

Denmark are comparable (around 5.5 million) and 1 place above us. We do have the diaspora in the UK which increases our choice of players. We don't really select from the 3.5m only.
All in all though pretty good.

How the HELL to Mexico stay consistently in the top five????? From playing against St Kitts & Nevis, Barbados and Panama????? Even in recent world cups they've done nothing

Sorry, that should be top 10. But even still. They're not THAT good. Don't think they've ever been outside top 10

They were 11th in June of last year and then won the Gold Cup including 2 wins over Brazil to get to 5th.
Jack Charlton stayed on 4 years too long, feck all left for Mick to work with which took him couple of years to figure out & Kerr steady as she goes - all pretty much reflected in the rankings....
