I'm sure we've all done our own out on a scrap of paper over the year, but its forever changing so I'm sure we'll all hotly contest a one based on current form. As the 4-3-2-1 is being adopted by the great managers like Mourinho and Rijkaard at the moment we'll stick with that for our line-ups!

Mine reads:

Buffon
Puyol Nesta Carvalho A.Cole

Xavi Pirlo Zidane

Ronaldinho Kaka

Shevchenko

Here's my attempt:

Buffon

Puyol, Nesta, Carvalho, Maldini (C)

Xavi, Viera, Zidane
Ronaldino

Shevchenko, Henry

A few controversial decisions there. Watching Milan in recent weeks made me realise the living legend that is Paulo Maldini. Think he's been in the Milan first team for about 15 year now and still going strong. There would seem to be a scarcity of top quality left-backs in the world at the moment and Ashley Cole has never convinced me. So Maldini is captain of my team.

just wondering ? is carvalho that good or is there a shortage of decent centre backs?

Ricardo Carvalho has done it all levels the last 2 seasons in both the Champions League and Euros. A classy centre half(apart from the mop) who hasn't put a foot wrong for Chelski and has been overshadowed by the goals John Terry has scored. And he carried a distinctly large Jorge "P.P" Costa all last season in the outstanding Porto team. Is Mourinho wrong on many counts as regards his signings? Don't think so.

Three players I'd definitely have in it are Cech in goal, Henry up front, and Zidane in midfield.

Oh yeah, and Colm Foley at centre back :D

Had a competition among my mates along these lines before with the following rule: no 2 players on the same international, or playing in the same league,

so if you take Roy Keane (Premiership, Ireland) it means no Alan Shearer, Henry, Gerrard, etc - all Premiership
but you could have Owen (Primera Liga, English)

See what you can come up with!

So you're picking 11 different internationals from 11 different leagues??

yep pretty much, it's tougher than it sounds...remember a lot of the best players in the world play in the same leagues - Spanish, Italian, German and English - so one player from any of these knocks out every other one in it

So far I've come up with:

Oliver Kahn - Germany, Bundesliga

Roberto Carlos - Brazil, Primera Liga
Maldini - Italy, Serie A

Roy Keane - Ireland, Premiership
Stilian Petrov - Bulgarian, Scottish Premier League
Jerome Rothen - France, French Division 1

Olisadebe - Poland, Greek league
Julius Agahowa - Nigerian, Ukrainian league (Shaktar Donetsk)

so that knocks every out other German, Irish, Brazilian, Italian, Polish, French, Bulgarian and Nigerian player, as well as every other player in the Bundesliga, French League, Primera Liga, Serie A, Premiership, Greek, Scottish, and Ukrainian leagues

Hard to argue with that team PM. Think i'd stick Ollie Kahn in instead of Buffon though!

I'd go with your team dillo but I'd take out Zidane to be replaced with Nedved and Henry to be replaced with Benni McCarthy :D

Glad to see nobody picked Deco :D ,the most overrated player around

I think I read in the Gazetta during the Summer that he made his debut for Milan in 1985! How many players have had careers that long never mind continuosly at that high a standard for the same team - I can't think of any other one club man currently who has been so consistently at the top of the game.

For that matter, I can't see any other current Italian defender better than him at the moment.

Your right on Nedved Dub. I ommitted him and the great Paolo Maldini from my original line up. Although Ashley Cole is beginning to distinguish himself as a top notch LB in all departments of his game. Even managing to knock one in against a very fanciable Geordie(i.e Cheryl) :D

Pity you haven't seen Deco much this season then  Absolute class in a team that oozes class in abundance. Bring on Chelski. Can't wait to hear the Barca anthem when Jose takes to the dugout. Gives goosepimples already!

My brother is a crazy Arsenal fan but he hates Cole.
Says he's always thinking hes a striker.

Its also kind of obvious to everyone that he's a bit of a scut.

Yes but you still have the Portuguese League, the League of Wales, the Czech-Moravian First Division, the Serbo-Montenegrin First Federal League, The Russian First Division oh and the Eircom League. :D
