People on here must have no life.. maybe ref works saturdays and can only make 2nd game or maybe 1 team were not available on Saturday.. i also see hibs have no game friday now because they have a league match on saturday. Maybe there is a few reasons why games have been changed..

a lot of maybe's above ;) maybe if Shannon town updated facebook page to say why fixtures changed or moved we would not be on asking reason only one game played ? if ref works sat or can only make 2nd game he would have said and Shannon town would not have arranged two games for tonight :ball:

Nice to see nothing has changed, I'm pretty sure there was a good reason for the change and I'm also sure they explained the reason to those involved don't see why they should have to explain to the amateur pundits on here. How did tonight's game finish

The Amateur pundits are some of the people who would like to go to watch these games and it helps if they know when games are on and what times etc , I am sure Shannon town explained reason to clubs involved and that's fair enough.

Reasonably comfortable. Town vs Hibs games are usually tighter, won or lost by a goal

Do you ever stop moaning about shannon town.. you have a serious chip on your shoulder.. ya they are 2nd game but sure can't they do what they want since its their tournament.. They already accommodated 2 teams by cancelling olympic game Saturday and changing hibs game on Friday. So why not accommodate themselves

The interest this pre season tournament brings to Shannon clubs/players every year really is amusing. If only the interest continued into the season ahead they might not be such a joke to other clubs/players looking in from the outside. The tournament is for the clubs to prepare for the season ahead but by looking at posts on this you would think its only the trophy Shannon clubs can win every season..... maybe it is.:ball:

no serious chip lot of respect for shannon town for keeping their club / teams going every year, but you summed it up with your statement " ya they are 2nd game but sure can't they do what they want since its their tournament.. !!! " as for cancelling games thats fair enough but you would hardly expect hibs to miss there first league game Saturday to play wesley webb instead

It may or not be the only trophy shannon teams will win this season only time will tell. But it is a great tournament which generates a lot of interest even from those who look down on it from the outside

I love this every year - it genuinely makes me laugh :D:D

It's great that the WW is still going strong even if it's with the same old 'it's our tournament and we can do what we want' attitude.

I just wish it was once again a competitive 'pre-season' tournament and not the current uncompetitive set-up. Teams being asked to play one year and then not the next year, changes to the format, league group format, now everyone plays everyone, was 6 teams, is now only 5, all the various changes, whatever happened Saturday that ref missed first game, but reffed second game instead of the first game which is what you'd think would happen, ST always playing the 2nd game to enable as many of their players to make it after work etc etc

I also think the WW tournament would benefit from having Sixmilebridge and,or Newmarket in it every year. They may not both want to play as they will meet at various times in the season, but ST would benefit from playing better opposition and it would make winning 4 in a row an achievement (5 this year) as opposed to it being nothing more than just a formality.

Now please (pretty please) don't take this as an attack on anyone or anybody that helps run the WW every year, or that this being anti ST, because it's not - I am simply saying it would be nice to have a set of rules in place that were the same every year and that allowed for no grey areas.

I also don't think anyone looks down on the competition - if they do, it's a pity, they are forgetting it's a Memorial tournament.

don't panic

Im open to correction but the only reason its a 5 team tournament this year is Olympic pulled a team a last minute can't blame town for changing format there. Agree with you about bridge and newmarket but at whose expense.

Football-Unites
10/08/2015, 4:37 PM
Didn't know that about Olympic, nothing ST could do there.

You could try and have an 8 team tournament - 2 groups of 4, semi final and final. Rineanna would probably play as well.

I just thought it used to be a much better competition in years gone by.

Even if hibs do well people will still find the negative '2a is a poor division' or 'sure it doesn't matter they're going into the clare league next year anyway' very little positives said on this forum or is football in Shannon just that bad???? Best of luck to Aaron and his team for the season!

2A Is a poor division ! (Technicaly the 4th Division in limerick )
Have limerick league confirmed release to allow hibs move back to clare next season ??

If Aaron gets his first 11 out every week and a bit of luck i would expect them to be in with a shout of winning league Come end of season.

From what I have seen better teams in 2A in Limerick and Division 1 in Clare are very similar.

We finished 3rd from bottom in 2A last season and have beaten Shannon Olympic 7-2, drew with them 2-2 and beat Hermitage 5-2.

Have usually played high Clare teams and done well. The only one to give us a good beating was Bridge Utd.

Maybe in preseason yes.. but realistically clare 1st division is a higher standard than 2A in limerick .. I saw ye in a friendly v olympic this year ye won 7-4 I think but half that team was olympic b which happens in preseason.. and I don't think ye would survive in clare 1st division.. no offence mean't

None taken. I reckon we'd be alright though. A good few of our lads have played premier in Limerick, a few have played 1A in Limerick for years also. A good few teams in 2A would have players like that also.

Based on the fact some of the better B lads will be with the As this Sunday and if Shannon Town fancy themselves to win the 1st division they would want to be winning against Newmarket B with a weaker side.

Newmarket B are always decent and the fact that it's a bit of a derby will also add spice, but if ST are as good as we hear then they should win by at least 2.
