For all the webby heads in here:

What's the quickest and easiest way to extract the metadata from a site and what's the conventional way someone into that stuff would do it?

What metadata are you trying to extract, something specific or all of it? For just one page or a whole site?

And say the National Gazetteer from the Ordnance Survey

What language are you looking to do this in?
Is it all metadata from a particular request, or all data on a specific page, or all metadata across the site?
Is it a single metadata value, or subset of values, from all available?
