Good news for you all (Not really).

Cockhill got the go-ahead from the FAI to use their own ground, Charlie O'Donnell complex, for the FAI Cup game.

It's COLD AS F**K.

There's no spectator facilities.

You've to walk up a horrible little hill from the road to get to it.

The dressing rooms are tiny and a 200 yard walk from the pitch.

Did I mention that it's cold?

On the plus side, it's got a good pitch.

Was told this would be happening last week not happy at all the other ground we were due to play in looked lovely with a tidy little stand. So we are playing a cup game in a field is what your saying? Greatness

Could be worse, Harps played a cup quarter final in Avondale Park last season, in the middle of nowhere, essentially a field, and only found out where it'd be a week before the match.

There's at least a fence the lean on around the pitch in Cockhill.

Maginn Park is out of action at the minute so were forced into this move.

Yeah, as said, pitch is being relaid in Maginn. It's seen a huge amount of action the last few months and I'd say nobody expected Cockhill to get to the third round, and furthermore, get a home game.

Never heard the ground being owned by the FAI before though, that's a new one on me.

Some of ye of a certain vintage may remember a cup game away to Avondale Utd sometime back in the mid 90's?? Played in a muddy field on top of a hill with just a rope around the pitch! Is there many making the trip up and staying over?

that was in 1995. I didnt go to the match but heard all about it! we had gone to the trouble of knocking out Drogheda Utd in the first round alas we were in the same division! I wont be staying up but will be going on the bus as never in Buncrana in my life!

Might get lucky, there's a possibilty of a few fleeting updates on Soccer Donegal Facebook Page.

EDIT:
Actually, just looking at it now, there's nothing. Cockhills Facebook page has a total of one update, just informing people that it was 0-0 coming up to half-time.

Just back from the game. We were crap in the 1st half and only got better when Cockhill got tired and we brought on Simon and Salmo. The first goal was an og and the second goal was given when none of us knew whether it had crossed the line or not. The only noteworthy incident was when Ricer gave out stink to kaleem simon about somethin just after he came on which was uncalled for in my opinion. Cousins told rice to concentrate on his own performance and promptly substituted him a few minutes later. his face was a picture!

Just home from the 400KM trek. Obviously delighted we won but overal I left the ground (a tidy little ground I must credit Cockhill for) disappointed with what I saw from us. Bar the first 20 minutes where we got it down and played nice ball only to miss 2 massive chances and the last 5 minutes where we were 2-0 up and Cockhill gave up, we looked far from a big team from the Premier League. As the second half grew the home side came into it more, the crowd started to get a bit of buzz and we ended up gifting them 2 great opportunities but luckily they didn't take them. In saying that Rhys missed a great chance before all this to kill the game but missed but to be giving up chances to a team who were probably one of the worst I've ever seen hardly fills me with great confidence and I was far from bragging about the result leaving Donegal.

The big talking point from the game was the disgraceful behaviour of Stephen Rice. Kaleem Simon was berated my Rice for no apparent reason in what I can only describe as a total act of bullying and trying to be the big man, with it being a small ground and a quite crowd everyone in the ground could hear the rubbish Rice was spouting and Cousis rightfully told him to shut the fck up and concentrate on his own game before immediately substituting him for Salmo. Rice headed straight for the being without saying a word and sat there like a bold child until he bolted for the dressing room as soon as the full time whistle sounded unlike the rest of the players and subs who came over the thank the small band of supporters who traveled.

There seems to be a few attitudes starting to get too big for their boots within the squad and I think we all know who they are and something needs to be done before the squad morale goes to ****e all together.

I'm glad to report Kaleem went on to have an excellent game. Not confident ahead of Saturday at all. News coming though this evening that Flynn is out of the season so despite today's result it hasn't been the best of days for us. Here's hoping for a good draw tomorrow to rectify all.

Heard they done a lot of upgrades to the ground for todays game. Was there anything in the way of spectator facilities there? Last time I was there it was just a pitch on top of the hill with the dressing rooms down at the road.

Not particularly there was a chip van alright and portaloos but bar that there was nothing else I just thought it was a tidy little ground for a non league team, the dressing rooms being at the bottom of the hill is lakes though

Most grounds in Inishowen League are absolutely top class. Just unlucky you didn't get to see the match in Maginn. Would have been over the moon with that ground if you were impressed with Cockhill.

so whose ground is it Nigel? When we first went to Buncrana we followed the team bus who went to the wrong ground which I believe is out the Muff Rd! is that Cockhill's ground?

You probably ended up at Maginn Park, was there a covered stand and all? It's the headquarters of the Inishowen League and where they play cup finals, Oscar Traynor Games, and suchlike.

You watched the match at Cockhills ground, Charlie O'Donnell Grounds.

Cockhill looked decent but a bit rusty I thought, hesitant in defence especially but acquitted themselves really well. Longford worth the win without overly impressing. I'll say one thing though, that Munnelly lad was absolutely everywhere for ye.

whos that Mr A? by the way I recognised Gavin Cullen from his harps days playing for Cockhill. Who else with loi experience played the other night for Cockhill?

Couple of ex-senior players left Cockhill over the summer, Ryan Varma went back up to Cockhill, Gerry Gill formerly of Harps went back to Inishowen League. They were also missing Malachy McDermott, a massive loss to them, who was in America for the summer, he was supposed to sign for Harps at the start of the season, was in the Donegal GAA football squad earlier in the year too.

I'd don't think they hadn't much in the way of ex-Harps men out there aside from a few that played underage or A Championship. Peter Doherty (young centre half) and Mark Moran (small stout ginger midfielder) both played with Harps but don't think either made a first team appearance. William O'Connor, assume he was the other centre half, is currently first team coach at Harps. Brendan 'Fildara' McLaughlin was on trial at Harps during the summer but never signed in the end.
