Anything by Chris Doran.

Well now even Brian Mc Fadden thinks " If My World Stops Turning " is sh1t. which begs the question which pr1ck nominated it as one of the best entries as original song for the whole competition? Might account for the complete change in panel of judges for this year's competition.... will yer wan Kaneswaren ever lose the red dye ?it's bleedin hideous

I don't think MM's Tainted Love hit the spot like the old classic by softcell, it lost the whole meaning of the song  . Knocking on heavens doors by GNR is savage though- Slash is da bomb

Three pages in and no mention of Band Aid II (from 1989) or Bank Aid 20? Very pale versions of the original, I thought.

Actually picked up the Band Aid single in a record sale ages back but never played it...only put it on recently and found out that it was the 1989 version... Featuring such luminaries as Big Fun, Cathy Dennis, D Mob, Kevin Godley, Glen Goldsmith, The Pasadenas, Jimmy Sommerville, Sonia and Technotronics...

Did have at least some people you've heard of though - Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Chris Rea, Cliff Richard, Lisa Stansfield and Wet Wet Wet - but it shows how much downhill music went in those five years...

Chesney Hawkes anyone?

No Chesney Hawkes was his real name. His old man was Chip Hawkes and he was in one of those 1960's bands like The Love Affair or somebody like that.

Didn't think Cathy Dennis was around in 1989, thought she had her one hit wonder around 1990/91.

No 1-his version of Fairytale of New York-people have been deported for less.

I blame the producers and the record companies.

Yeah but Scott Aitken and Waterman produced the 89 one, so possible they bunged her on there.

Busted did a version of "Mrs Robinson".

I nearly cried. I love that song and look what those teeny bopping disgraces have done to it.

The Lemonheads did a good cover, obviously Simon and Garfunkel did a fabulous job at the start.

Can't recall her being a proper house name, was she not just one of the random pop music heads who used people from the house scene to help push their records by working with them or if you're name's Paul Weller ripping them off the week they're about to release the original  Will randomly guess that Macy might know something about this seeing as he's from Manchester where house was at its biggest in the UK.

She was a featured vocalist on three D-MOB hit singles before her first solo hit.

As did Frank Sinatra

One's I particulary dislike!

Tom Jones taking every once of sex appeal out of the Prince classic Kiss!

Britney Spears mudering Bobby Brown's 80's classic - My Perogative

Liberty X sodomising Chaka Khan & Rufus classic - 'Ain't Nobody'

One's I like:

Chaka Khan doing Prince's 'I Feel For You'

Alicia Keys doing Prince's 'How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore'

Beyonce doing the Bee Gee's 'Emotions'

Blur doing the Specials 'Nightclub'

That was Scissor Sisters too!
Maybe they should stick to their own compositions.....
Talking of Pet Sounds, am I the only one who didn't think Albert Nyland's version of Wuthering Heights was particularly good?

Ages ago I heard Tori Amos (pretty sure it was her anyway) do a cover of "Smells like teen spirit", with only a piano - no drums, guitar, etc.

Words failed me.

Tori Amos' version of smells like teen spirit is on the b-side of the Silent All These Years single. I really like it actually ...though I acknowledge it's blatant attention seeking.

As for Cathy Dennis -who was brought up a few posts back -she was very much on the SAW end of house and released the kind of muck they used regularly feature on 'The hitman and her'. the only thing that separates her from the reynolds girls is the fact she wasn't utterly kicked.

Cathy Dennis worked with D-Mob initially and then had a solo career. She always co-wrote her material and is one of the most successful songwriters on the music scene today. She co-wrote Kylie's hit " Can't Get You Out of My Head" with Rob Davies who in the 1970's played Lead guitar for glam rockers MUD.
