most teams are back already which is good to see. Havent heard much in the way of transfers.hopefully Premier should be very competitive this year. Town and peake will need plenty of additions if they want to challenge celtic and saints at top

Well Peake will be looking down and not up the table from what I hear. They'll have enough to stay up though. Mick Ryan, Ted o Connor and Alan Leahy have all retired apparently.

Town are at their lowest ebb in the junior game for an awful long time. If they don't get their house in order soon they might stay that way with Celtic taking over in the town.

Mick Ryan has been training with Cashel so he definitly wont be retiring. Interesting to see can Clonmel Town bring some Youths through into their first team, as low as they are they seem always to produce good players and Youth sides on a regular basis. I hear Pa Quinn could be back in the fold with St Michaels

Cashel should be a lot for competitive this season . Is it a 9 team premier league this year or is it remaining at 8. Have Saint Michaels new management for season ahead?

Clodaigh Ranger 0-1 Clonmel Town
Clonmel Celtic 7-1 Lough Derg
St Michaels 5-1 Nenagh Celtic
BT Harps. 0-5 Peake Villa.

Not as strong a competition with Roscrea and Nenagh Town out

Micheals to beat Borris, Celtic to beat Bansha and Town to beat Bridge look the predictable results, Cashel to take 3pts vs Villa ? Anyone see any surprises in the 1st week ?

Results went fairly as predicted for the opening weekend...apart from the Cashel/Peake fixture perhaps... Heavy losses for bansha and borris.

Have Cashel and St Michaels not got youths teams this season? Disappointing if they don't considering the improvements Cashel 1st team are making and the success Michaels have had in recent years

Saints will be under pressure to field a team as they have lost a huge number of players to new u17/19 leagues but will Hv a nice young b team , I think youths /18 grade will b under threat from now on

very few youth teams around now . Cashel and tipperary town are two big catchment areas not to have u18 sides.

what was reason for celtic not travelling to clare today

no interest in cashel at youth level so that is no surprise, it has been falling away for the last couple of years, its awful to see it here, how many did Michaels lose rightboy, think your over exaggerating there, i make it 2. shameful that michaels cant field when cullen lattin can a youth side!

true yes, michaels werent exactly a good youth team last year so there would be no fear of losing too many lads to higher leagues.

You'd never see something like that happen with Town or Michaels in fairness. Even if missing players why not go up and take their beating, it would be forgotten about in a few weeks..

Very true Siberian, im sure Tom Lewis will have some stern words for our league representatives in the competition, the TSDL would have better off sending up any of the previous aforementioned clubs to participate

Siberian
16/10/2015, 1:14 PM
The TSDL fixtures Sectretary who has close associations with St Michaels (past chairman and treasurer) receives a request for a free weekend from rival club of St Michaels, i.e. Clonmel Celtic FC. Apparently all clubs are entitled to apply for a free weekend once they give adequate notice which Clonmel Celtic did on this occasion. Bizarely the League Secretary is of the opinion that a Friday doesn't form part of a weekend so he schedules a fixture for Clonmel Celtic on the Friday night, against guess who? Yes away to St Michaels :D:D. You couldn't make this up!!!

'Evil prospers when good men do nothing'.

Definition of a weekend - 'noun 1. the end (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/end) of a week (http://click.reference.com/click/nn1ov4?clkpage=dic&clksite=dict&clkld=390:1&clkdest=http%3A%2F%2Fdictionary.reference.com%2Fbr owse%2Fweek&clkmseg=45), especially the period of time between Friday evening and Monday morning:

footy.fan

The Tsdl have put a post up on their website clarifying the situation regarding free weekends.. Basically it says you can apply for a free weekend, give adequate notice, specify a date and even at that if the fixtures secretary does not feel like granting a weekend off he has the right to refuse the application..... Surely there should be a rule change to allow All clubs 2 free weekends a year , once 2 weeks notice is given....this would help all clubs, but especially smaller clubs, who have difficulty fielding teams when there is an overlap with county finals etc

footy.fan
27/10/2015, 10:58 AM
An amendment to rule 21a would help regarding clubs being granted free weekends but this needs club members to raise the proposal at the AGM or an EGM.. If the majority of clubs look for an amendment to this rule, or any other rules that clubs feel need changing, surely the league will have to listen

Siberian
27/10/2015, 11:40 AM
You'd imagine that's exactly how the system should work. However does anyone actually have a copy of the TSDL Rule book or how difficult could it be for TSDL to stick it up on their website. I assume the FAI rule book carrys more clout than the TSDL one if there are any inconsistencies? Problem with TSDL it's like a secret organisation that doesn't communicate very well and needs to be more open and transparent. The TSDL part of foot.ie basically died when TSDL threatened any club/person who said anything bad about and now I hear Celtic are in big bother about something they put up on their website last week.

All clubs should have the right to vent their frustration,as long as they are not being abusive towards individuals or making unsubstantiated allegations of cheating etc... I read what Celtic wrote and to be honest if there is any backlash from the league over to post it will be a complete over reaction. No one was abused,or accused anyone of anything under handed. It simply outlined their frustration with a flawed system ... Surely we should all be allowed complain if something is needs changing

SgtBilko

Clonmel Celtic used up their free weekend when they failed to take the field in the Munster Champions Cup. I have no pity on them and it looks like Tom Lewis didn't either, probably a bit of Karma as one would put it!

Siberian
28/10/2015, 8:25 AM
I think it's a well known fact Bilko that you're no 'Celtic sympathiser'. However if people let their personal grudges get in the way of having an open debate that hopefully may some day influence positive administrative change in the league they'll never be progress and we'll always be debating issues like. I wouldn't be Celtic's biggest fan but I think they did get a raw deal here and not turning up for the Munster game had sod all to do with it.

the truth
28/10/2015, 8:11 PM
I find it very strange that anybody would have sympathy for Clonmel celtic. The season has barely started and Celtic require another free weekend along with the weekend they granted themselves only a short 7 weeks ago by failing to fulfil a champions league fixture! If this was a payback ye deserve it!

Fact remains, irrespective of Celtics situation, it would benefit all clubs to have an amendment to rule 21a, especially smaller clubs in areas that have strong GAA teams.

Peake Villa have won 3 youth leagues in the last 5 years with 3 different sets of top youth players and are a complete shambles. How is this possible? They are a club who take pride in their junior side and put their money where their mouth is in terms of junior resources. Any team can get hit for 5 on a day over the course of a season, there will be days like that, it's the second week of November and they have been hit for 5 in cashel, 5 home and away to clonmel, hammered by saints, presume this is the underlying reason Michael Ryan is playing in Cashel after a decade or more with Villa

how is this possible?? because you will find it difficult for a young team to keep it into top teams like michaels/celtic. i saw villa today, goalie and centerback maybe 30 years old. center midfielder 25 years old. i reckon the rest of the team are between the ages of 17-22 from the youths teams you mention. you must understand how they got a few clippings off celtic/michaels (2 of the best in the country). it isnt rocket science.

villa went through a stage of having no youths teams, at this moment in time they are paying for that as it on now when those youths would be now good age for junior soccer....but in a couple of years it will all level out again. the old phrase, ya win nothing with kids, but these kids will grow up ;)

Cashel beat villa 5-1, Glengoole beat Cashel 4-1, Clonmel Town had several youths playing in Thurles when they beat Villa 5-0, also in 2000 Peake villa were promoted from the 1st div to the premier, the same year their youths reached the fai final, all the youths went into the first team and won the league, that same season St michaels were beaten in the fai final by portmarnock so saints were in the top 2 in Ireland but a villa side backbones by 19 year olds won the title...not rocket science, villa need a young ambitious manager to bring through those youths and sign 3 or 4 players and they will be right back up there

The Cashel team that lined out against Glengoole was 5 or 6 players short of the Cashel team that beat villa. Villa have a young squad and should stay in the division. A season or 2 together and then They will have the basis for a strong squad for the next 7 or 8 years where they might be pushing for silverware... There are a few teams this season in the premier that have extremely young squads, Villa and Borris probably being the 2 youngest from what I seen. A lot of the reason is because some clubs didn't concentrate on developing youths into first team squads. Then when their batch of 1st team players retire they have no decent players ready to replace them. Now these clubs have no players in the mid 20's and are forced to play 5 and 6 boys from the youths....

Thought Jamie O Flaherty was spot on last night on Tipp Fm about Peake Villa, seems everyone in the County can see what's going on yet the club will allow it to continue, they are failing the young players and will ultimately end up losing their better players in the December window and in the Summer, history repeating itself

I hear Villa have parted company with their management team, You would think with them out of all cup competitions and with little hope of finishing higher than their current position they are not going to gain much by getting rid of him now, if anything it could destabilize them even more for the rest of the season,
