Bad times are good


SOME would call it a poor season, others might not be so cynical.
Depending on your point of view, it was a good or bad season for Kilkenny City in the Eircom First Division.
The broader picture would suggest a season of little to shout about.
But the dedicated supporter will view 2004 as a year of progress.
He or she will reason that for the first time in three seasons the club did not have to seek re-election.
That has to be progress of sorts.

In 2002 City finished at the bottom of the pile. The status quo prevailed at the end of 2003.
But as the final league table of the Eircom First Division League shows, Kilkenny have finished ahead of bottom club Limerick FC, second last Monaghan United and midland club Athlone Town FC.

Ger Bickerstaff called it quits in November. Here's hoping John Gill, who previously was assistant manager in Buckley park, will take charge. I'd say we won't hear anything until the New Year.
