Gilmartin hoping to earn new contract at Watford.

Funny auld existence for lads like him, Brian Murphy and Colin Doyle, averaging about a game every two seasons. Mustn't be very fulfilling.

Crazy really, he wasn't getting a look in at St Pat's last season and looked well out of his depth according to a few people. Now he's looking to earn a new contract at Watford.

Maybe St. Pat's are better than Watford :)

He's there mainly in a coaching capacity it seems.

Fair play to him.

For a goalkeeper who's not good enough for the LOI, let alone the Premier League, he's done amazing. From all I've heard, he's a very good coach, which is presumably why he's there.

Gilmartin will leave Watford when his contract runs out: http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/thanks-for-everything-watford-fans-react-to-rene-gilmartin-s-departure/story-30378933-detail/story.html

Watford confirmed earlier that Rene Gilmartin will leave the club when his contract runs out. The likeable Irish keeper has not made a single appearance since rejoining the club in 2014, but is a popular figure among the players.

And that is reciprocated by the vast majority of fans, who believe he was a fine ambassador for the club and good to have in and around an ever-changing dressing room. That is why the reaction to his departure has been somewhat larger than many might expect for a keeper who made seven appearances across two separate spells, totaling five years at the club.
