    Hugh Davey

Might as well post this site for anyone interested...

Go to the athletics drop menu, select Daytona Beach and click on the soccer team. If you manage to make it through the appalling American soccer jargon (actually reports number of saves made by keepers - sad or what! ), you'll find match stats, player profiles, etc.

They seem to have male cheerleaders too! That seems to be missing the point.

I notice two serious omissions from his profile. 1/ His Under 21 international caps for Northern Ireland. 2/ The fact that he played what the Yanks would call " Major League" soccer in the Republic for UCD these past two seasons.

The Americans like to get their facts straight in sports tut tut tut

Under U.S. Federal Law Women's sports get funded equally with men's sports.
This is one of the reasons why the U.S.A. is #1 in the world in Women's footie. The sport got equivalent funding to male College American football.
Overtime the talent emerged and the University programs produced the likes of Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain and goalie Brianna Scurry. In Women's football
Since 1991 The USA have won 2 World Cups and 2 Olympic Gold medals.

The Corollary of that is that, in some Universities in most sporting cagtegories, unless there is a male equivalent the female one will not be funded. Hence Male Cheerleaders at the female team sports events.

My mentor is American. He once told me that there are more cheerleading-related injuries in the US each year than American football related ones!!

                Cheerleading-related or cheerleader-related?
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.

Cheerleading. Though I'm sure cheerleader-related accidents are far from rare too.
