I normally every weekend pick six home teams to win, you'd be amazed at how hard it is.. 5 euro would get you a nice little sum even with the biggish teams and since this forum is full of extremely knowledgable footy fans lets put our heads together to create one super weekly bet, no?

Well its not really the right forum, general football would be more suitable. I'm a big gambler BTW (have a €55 euro Yankie on atm and all 4 teams are winning). :) I'd usually go to these two sites for info:
www.punterslounge.com
www.bettingadvice.com

You might want to look at this site
http://www.footballanorak.com/

You can see how a team does when a certain player starts
for instance you can see that if you back Chelsea (in the past)
when Duff starts you will make money. (24% gain).

http://www.footballanorak.com/Damien-Duff-pid-284.html

\you would make more on Kilbane though (73%).

http://www.footballanorak.com/Kevin-Kilbane-pid-494.html

Even better with Carlsley (101%)

http://www.footballanorak.com/Lee-Carsley-pid-431.html

Back against Tottenham when Robbie Keane starts
http://www.footballanorak.com/Robbie-Keane-pid-617.html

Of course these are probably fairly player independant and
so my tip would be to back Everton and back against Chelsea.

However the odds my well have tightened now, but I suspect
you willl still get good value backing unfashionble Everton.
Famous last words?

Of course the sure fire way to make money betting on football,
or anything, is to become a bookmaker :D

If anyone cares, Luton were the only team that failed to win but I still got €51.33 back. Thats the good thing about Yankee's, if one team lets you down you only make a small loss or in some cases a small profit. I got €97 back from a €20 treble on Barca, Rennes and Gent so I'm up a bit for today. :)

OK.....I am going to put my money where my mouth is for a change!!

I said back Everton and they are playing Newcastle today (Sunday)
they are 3/1 to win at Ladbrokes where I will place my bet.
Everton away 5-1-1 are better than Newcastle at home 3-1-3
so I think 3/1 is a good price.

I will put £5 on it as Everton are as good as Arsenal away 5-1-1
and almost as good as Chelsea 6-1-1.

OK I have placed the bet!!

I might regret it, but at least I did the maths!! It's a close call because
Everton might settle for a draw but anyway the bet is on now and
I cannot back out of it!

I expect I will be eating humble pie later today but the way I look at it
is is that if the game was played 4 times Everton would win one of them
(enough to get my money back!!).

I am still scared though

But it will put my Ladbrokes account into credit by £5, although it is already
£60 in credit if I include my big odds on £210 1-3 on bet of Man U to beat
Millwal in the FA Cup final. :)

play too open a game for correct scores

€20 on a Nancy, Perugia double tonight returns €55. Nancy have won their last 6 home games and are top of the French Ligue 2, Perugia are absolute bankers!

Love the football betting every weekend but betting on something as unpredictable as football is a mugs game. That said I'm proud to proclaim myself a mug as it adds a little fun to a saturday afternoon. :)

The other week I was absolutely devastated. 3 very very late goals (Hitzelsperger vs Bolton, Furlon vs Wigan, Phillips vs Pompey) separated me from winning £5,399 off a £2 bet!!! :(

BTW, why is this in the National Team Section?

Unpredictable? I find it one of the easiest sports to bet on. Because it is the sport I have most interest in I find it the most predictable. BTW, I spend a while researching team's form, etc before putting a bet on.

I've made over €210 on a free €50 bet I got over a week ago. I rarely lose to be perfectly honest. I never put more than €20 in my account and I just try to build that up. I've put bets of over €100 on but that is only from the money I've built up. I've never bet over €20 out of my own pocket (well, on football anyway). I never regard the amount in my account as my money until I take it out and have it in cash.:)

I have a folder in my favourites with about 15 sites for football tips, form guides, etc. :)

Well any info/tips would be gratefully received EB. I stick mainly to the English leagues as it's quite handy but they are probably the least predictable. I do my research (who is fit, injured, form, etc) but pick my bets very badly (i.e. betting on Bolton when Pompey get their first away win of the season without a manager, bet on Wigan when they lost their first game of the season, Wolves results have gone the other way every time i've bet on them this season, etc, etc). I'm not a serious better but would be nice to win slightly more often. I'm sure if bookies did a list of most predicatble sports football would come very far down the list.

www.sportinglife.com do a good betting preview of the English Premeri**** and European games.

eirebhoy
29/11/2004, 1:09 PM
www.bettingadvice.com - This would be the first site I check for tips. Go to the predictions tab for tips and the forum for everything else. I just look at all the league's and anything over 7/10 (7 out of 10 :)) I'd most likely bet on.

www.punterslounge.com - A betting forum where you can find useful info.

http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/formGuide.jsp? - British form guides

http://www.soccerway.com/ - worldwide football tables

http://www.bet-league.com/home.htm - tips

http://www.profitbets.com/ - tips

Thats a few good sites. Most team news you would want would be on the first two forums. European matches are great as Bettingadvice would have a seperate thread for every match. There is over 7,000 members so you'll get the info you need. :)

http://www.fanbase.inuk.com/betting_football_links.html

Seems to be a good selectiong info on the above link.

Nothing is a betting certainty though, I had £210 on Man U to win
the F A Cup against Milwall (at 1/3) , I was feeling pretty sick when it was
still 0-0 towards half time.

It made me £70 in the end though :D which made up for the £50
I was robbed of on the roulete machine in Ladbrokes.

Speaking of sporting certainties, am I correct that the team at the
bottom of the Prem have a habit of beating the team at the top,
sometimes when away from home!!!!

Bankers? I think you can probably think of a similar sounding word for
them now!

Mind you I can talk as I lost £5 on Everton V Newcastle.

Rotherham got their first win of the season (21 games) against
Leeds too.

If it was that easy we would all be millionaires!!

Still I am gonna win my £5 back some how :D

The thing about betting on anything is that it takes alot of thought and judgement but alot of people don't put enough of this in and bet anyway, so people look at it as a mugs game. Like anything it take time to become good at it but the vast majority aren't disciplined enough and don't learn from their mistakes. Patience plays a big part, for me anyway.

Well my online account remains about £50 in credit, ie I am £50 up
although most of that was due to a big odds on bet (1-3 on).
All my other bets lost bar my bet on Greece to beat Portugul 1:0 in
the Euro 2004 final. (Oh I also had a another winner at 7-1, betting in
runing France - England 2:1, also Euro 2004).

The good thing about having an account is you can see how much you
have won (or lost as is more often the case!!).

Most (all?) of the bets were just fun bets (bar the initial £210).

Horse and dog racing tends to be fixed, football correct scores pretty
much a lottery, football "dead cert" wins are at unbackable odds.

I did loads of research before I placed my £210 on Man U to beat
Millwall, even then I was very worried untill a minute before half time.
Had Millwall made it to half time it might have been a different and
sadder story!

I gues if it was easy to make money gambling I would be a millionaire
by now!!

The only gambling I can consistantly win at is yahoo poker, however
that is not real money. I do sometimes wonder how I would do if I
played for real money. Maybe one day I will try, I started with $1,000
and I now have $20,000 ( in a few months) however I imagine it would
be different playing for real and in a real setting there would be a 'cut'
for the hosting site. (And then again it might be fixed if it was an
online site).
I will have to 'bite the bullet' and give it a go one day.

(I still own someone £50 from playing cards at university though :p )

It is a good thing with the online betting that you can keep track of what your winning or losing alot more easily. I'd stay clear of the poker. Its been the ruin-ation of me. I do grand at the footie but more often than not lose it in the poker rooms - damn that betfair poker! You can play for small money but every now and then I find myself drifting into the deep end and end up getting cleaned out.

Its a real test of your discipline and patience. Greed is an expensive thing.

Yes the thing is you must have disipline and patience, basically you need
to play pretty much without emotion, like a computer.
I think I might try the poker rooms some day, for small money then it is
easier not to get 'involved'. But I do wory about having a similar experience
to you so I have resisted the temptation - so far.

I had a no strings attatched (I think) bet with Labrokes for £20,
however I chickened out and backed a team to win lose and draw,
which resulted in me getting about £16 back.
If I had chose my bet better I would have got a better return, £18 maybe.

Of course the bookie know that inthe long run they will probably get their
£20 back (and the rest).

I finally had a go at on-line poker for real money,
I started out with £9.50, went right down to zero but I
won the last hand when I was "all in" (means you have no money
left will only win a part of the pot if you do win).
However I ended up with £15.84 so a £6.34 profit!!

It certaintly seem easier than picking football results, but
maybe I was just lucky, as I was almost 'wiped out'.

Quite hard work though, I would get a better wage
flipping burgers in McDonalds.

Coltron
12/12/2004, 1:57 PM
On betfair Poker they pay you to play, if they are trying to get a new table started they might invite you to play and offer to pay you up to £9 an hour. The stakes are higher though and you could well end up losing that and much more. It sounds good but in reality is very, very tough. If you keep playing tricky don't be surprised about the 'bad beats' you will take. Even if the other player needs one card in the pack to beat you with one card to come it WILL happen at some stage so be cautious. Congrats on your early success though and long may it continue for you.

tricky_colour
12/12/2004, 5:14 PM
Well I had another go at the poker and I now have £20.62 in the bank
up from £15.84 and more than double the initial £9.50 which was in my
account.
I played a lot of poker at yahoo to get some practise in, but is a bit different
when it is real money, people don't chuck it about as much as they do
'toy money'. Also the betting structure is different and it is rare that people
bet to the limit as in yahoo.

It is hard work though, you struggle for ages to eak out a bit of profit
and then blow the lot (and more) on some stupid hand you should never
have been playing in the first place.

Also luck tends to be 'lumpy' you go for ages without winning a hand
and then win three in a row, its always a big mistake when you try to
push your luck but somehow that is what always hapenns!!

The money is in dollars though so I have about $40 I think will
try and just play with my $21 profit. If I can, a few 'bad beats' can
quickly destroy your profit.

tricky_colour
14/12/2004, 4:58 PM
I completely blew my pprofit in one session of incredibly bad luck (and bad play
on my part to), I also lost another £5 on top of that.

However following a radical change in my playing style, and a great run of luck
I won most of it back so I now have £18.50, £9 profit.

If was a big roller coaster ride and the big drop was not a nice experience.
With my new style I would probably would more than have halved that loss.

I don't chuck my money about any more and I don't rely on 'luck'.

M@ttitude
