View Full Version : Reorganisation

I've been doing a lot of reorganisation now that the season's over, for example I've moved a load of posts from archived forums into more appropriate locations and deleted the empty forums, and I've written a few tutorials for the moderators, which I'll add to as I get a chance (and hopefully they'll add to too). Here's a few ideas about the forum hierarchy:

The first thing that occurred to me when I was moving those posts is that there was a good few UEFA posts, which I had to move into eL General. I'm wondering should we have a Europe section, or would there be enough to go in there?

I was also thinking that we should have an International Section, which obviously National Team and For Fans could go in, but also World Cup 2002, which is currently sitting in the archives.

And finally I was wondering if the club forum shouldn't be moved into a separate top-level category, since European matches aren't really eL, for example. If that was the case we could have dedicated Premier League and First Division forums under eL rather than the current mish-mash.

Anyway, few ideas there to get your started, let me know.

Adam I don't think a 1st Division forum is a good idea. Three of the most active 1st Division clubs just got promoted and I don't think there are that many 1st Division issues seperate to the Premier Division to be discussed. I think it would end up a bit of a graveyard, something rather like the Irish League forum. But you should rename the eL 'General' as it is getting confused sometimes as a general forum for football. Maybe 'For Fans' could be a bit better defined, I am not actually sure what it is for. :o I think it's for Irish fans for arranging tickets and travel but it gets confused sometimes as well.

In the league section ... dont think it is a good idea to seperate premier and first, i'd keep it all in together. I like the idea of the Irish league being up a bit higher, it was getting forgotten where it was. The rest is fine
The international is fine ... for fans could be renamed as suggested to avoid confusion.
Why is football in off topic ... or is that football games ??

Maybe "For Fans" could be renamed to something like "Off the field", something along those lines?

Having premier and first division forums (fora?) isn't a a great idea I don't think. There are few enough issues that apply to only one of the the two and I think the best part of this site is the EL General forum, encouraging more fans of clubs that don't foot.ie as their main club board to use foot.ie as the place to discuss league issues is important IMO and I think a general board is the best way to do this rather than having to categorise topics as premier or first division. I'd like to see the EL General become something like what JW's message board used to be.

The rest of the reoraganisation mooted above looks sensible although I'd like clubs above international personally. I don't like the heading 'domestic' though, not sure why, I'd prefer Eircom League as the heading.

Point taken about Premier V First forums. Only reason I mooted it is that I thought I'd seen people asking for a dedicated FD forum in the past. You guys know better than I do about this though.

The rest of the reoraganisation mooted above looks sensible although I'd like clubs above international personally. The reason I suggested International above Clubs was that there's been a large influx of people coming here to discuss Ireland recently. My thinking is that if these forums are a bit more prominent it'll encourage more people to join and post, yet the prominence of the general League forums might encourage them to take an interest in domestic soccer. It's a sneaky marketing trick targeted at the Irish Permiership fans tbh. :)

(That was a typo, but I think I kinda like it the way it is. Freudian slip.)

I don't like the heading 'domestic' though, not sure why, I'd prefer Eircom League as the heading.I don't like it either, I'd just forgotten I'd suggested "League" myself when I was playing around with it at the weekend. The main reason I wanted to change it was because I wanted the forum to be named "Eircom League" rather than "General". I'll rename the category and make the other changes above shortly.

What about UEFA though?

You mean a forum for EL clubs' European games? I don't see the need to be honest, it'd only be used for a short period and it'd be a pain for mods to have move stuff from the club's forum.

On a separate point, is there any way for the forums to have different names when you look at the new posts page. The two Under 21 forums are indistinguishable for example and the world cup forums look a bit silly; only 2006 or 2002 comes up as the forum!

You mean a forum for EL clubs' European games? I don't see the need to be honest, it'd only be used for a short period...Same could be said of the World Cup forum though. Which reminds me: I set World Cup up that way so we'd have a dedicated archive for each WC, but in hindsight it looks a bit anal (I worked in stores for several years, I tend to be really picky about organisation). Should I drop the years and just leave it at "World Cup"?

... and it'd be a pain for mods to have move stuff from the club's forum.Well, to be fair I've never really been particularly oppressive about moving around club forum stuff. That being said, there's very little general chat about the European games, and if the club forums are moved out of the league section I guess that takes care of that anyway?

is there any way for the forums to have different names when you look at the new posts pageI'm afraid not. That's another reason why I wanted the General EL forum to be called Eircom League. Let me know what you think about the WC board and I'll have a think about the U21 ones.

If people want to chat about el clubs in Europe they can do it either in Eircom league General or in the individual club's forum. I see no need for a seperate forum to be set up and think it would probably be more of a nuisance than anything else.

I thought the format was grand the way it was, nice and easy :)

Why fix it if it's not broken?

The old "National team" section was better as it was IMO without these new sub forums.

On second thoughts, now that I've had time to have a proper look, it's not as bad as I thought. Much the same.

Sorry Maribor, I'll check it out later on, going for a few pints now.

BTW, if the people that wanted those League forums set up are in here, ye'd want to get yere skates on and pull in those screaming hordes ye mentioned, cos if they don't pick up traffic by the end of the year they're gone. That's only a few weeks now.
