Not necessarily - after all, Derrick Williams and Samir Carruthers dropped down to ambitious League One clubs and could well be in a position to be considered for international call-ups this time next year now that Bristol City and MK Dons have been promoted to The Championship. Ideally, of course, you would love to see young Irish players break into the first team at their Premier League clubs but it's becoming more apparent that if they aren't out-and-out stars, then it's better to get their careers established at a lower level than get stuck in the reserves and live off loan moves and the odd League Cup/Europa League/Pre-season friendly appearance.

Nothing makes me sadlier than his career careening off a cliff.

I know Sean Maguire has been getting all the attention in the League of Ireland at the moment in terms of who's likely to get a move to England, but Sadlier's record over the last season and a bit has also been impressive, with fifteen goals since he started playing from Sligo a little over a year ago. I live in Canada so I can only highlights and stats - do you lads think Sadlier has a decent shot of making it at a higher level?

I've seen him playing on the left side against Galway United a few times. I wouldn't be putting him in the Chris Forrester & Daryl Horgan bracket.

Seen him against Bray and thought he was excellent, the one player Sligo have that can turn on some magic. He is kind of wasted at Sligo for sure.......imho

He will certainly play at a higher level than the League of Ireland. Not sure he'll play for Ireland but certainly could. First step has to be to move from Sligo - most LOI clubs would like to have him in their teams as he's one of the best around.

Sadlier was taken off at half time after his goal and Rotherham went on to win the game 3-2.

Trevor Clarke scored the winner for Rotherham in the game as well.

Ian Lawlor and Shane Blaney played the 90 for Doncaster too.

Has really settled in at Doncaster this season, it appears. Grabbed a brace tonight against Southend to bring his tally for the season to ten league goals: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51185431

Call him up, Kenny! A Hat-trick against Man City! OK, it was their U21s in the EFL Trophy but still... https://www.themillers.co.uk/matches/fixtures/first-team/202122/october/rotherham-united-vs-manchester-city-u21-on-26-oct-21/

A lot of chatter today on various British sites (e.g. Football League World, The News (Portsmouth), The Bolton News) about interest in Sadlier (27), on the basis of his performances in the EFL Cup. I wonder if Portsmouth are making contingency plans for the loss of Ronan Curtis? Or is it all just generated by Mr Sadlier's agent?

Will definitely be leaving Rotherham. If not in January, then in the summer.

Sadlier scored 9 goals in 45 appearances for Bolton, but Ian Evatt's disinclination to use wide forwards limited his involvement. However, "There was absolutely no problem at all with Sads, he was ever the professional and in terms of the data he was always one of the best every day, his effort was outstanding." (Evatt). So Bolton cancelled the last 9 months of Sadlier's contract, which allowed him to move as a free agent to Wycombe Wanderers.
