Jeeps Geysir, what's eating you these days? You're even picking quarrels with the sensible guys.
cold winter and no riding makes geysir a grumpy polar bear.

Where do get that this was a quarrel?
I was just making a good natured nit-pick about a point of ethics which was so blatantly obvious, it actually shouldn't need any further explanation.
DeL kept asking me for more and more, what can I do?
It was complicated when DeL seamlessly mixed in a retort to Paul, inside a post which was mainly aimed at me.
It simply looks that he was replying to my post, which preceded his.
Would you like to be confused with Paul?
I'd imagine some people would be totally outraged to have a retort aimed at Paul to be included in what looks to be a reply to themselves :)
But I restrained myself and sought a rational approach.
How would you like to be accused of being shoddy and loose with stats/records? Would you willingly and with boundless generosity take those barbed arrows that were aimed for Paul?
At least Del should have removed the 'offending' sentence or edited in quotations to clarify who he was replying to.
That's the most basic of discussion board ethics.

sliperrier than an eel. your reply to someone else was still a dig at me. You'd give Alistair Campbell a run for his money I hope you work for a politician or party. You never deal in fact but time and again manage to squirm out of everything without actually answering anything. :)

All the ethics went out the window when you streaked naked onto the field that time.

Geysir - if I felt the need to apologise or edit any of my posts I would have done so. In a futile attempt (because of your ridiculousness) to abide by forum ethics, I went down the route of trying to get to the bottom of the confusion and deal with it at the source. I was responding to you when I said "it doesn't matter, etc", because it seemed pretty clear that you were questioning (offering an opinion on!) the importance of that Armenia game. You talked of how the Russian game was the more important game in that group to which I responded by saying "it doesn't matter bla bla bla", because, well, it didn't matter, in the context of the point I was making. The reason I said it didn't matter, was because "loose stats/records" had been thrown around (not by you) in relation to our inability to beat direct group rivals. I never confused you with Paul, but it was Paul I was engaging with in the first place, when you added your welcome, but irrelevant, tuppence worth. I think that's the reason you took some of my comments as being directed at you (kind of personally for some bizarre reason) when really they were just to emphasise the point I was making in the first place. Please now Geysir my old pal, no more slippiness, I'm starting to feel a bit like Danny Invincible with the lengths I'm going to to clear my name. Danny's a good guy, don't get me wrong, but there's only room for one Danny on foot.ie, I think everybody would agree with that.

You have thoroughly over-rationalised yourself into a knot Delorean. And i'm one who can follow Danny's lectures, because they have a structure and a rationality:)
The use of quotations in a post that is directed at 2 different posters, is to distinguish between which one you are directing your comment to and it is also basic discussion ethics. The reason is obvious, to avoid confusion and misunderstanding who you're actually replying to and more especially when the comment is negative. But if you feel that such clarification (to actually edit the post) was ridiculous, then it's most probably because that comment in question also applied to my opinion. On that, I definitely misunderstood.
Fair enough though if you want to dogmatically put absolute value on the fact that Armenia were a direct rival at that time and place in history, that you were focussed on some other train of thought in the thread and thought my opinion was irrelevant.

Is there a general group D discussion thread? I could only find this and the Opponent Watch thread.
Anyway, what do we want in early Sept? Two wins for Germany I presume.

Yeah two Germany wins should help the table look that bit healthier and lead us into a deluded sense of optimism once more. Bring it on! The Georgia Scotland game is pretty crucial if we're really going to be thrown a lifeline but, regardless of that result, Germany winning can only be a good thing really. Hopefully there'll be the added bonus of them arriving in Dublin with little to play for also.

A little birdie tells me a big greasy supply of crackbird and some lardy biscuits are set to arrive at the hotel the Germans are staying at a few hours before game time.
