Very early goal from Danny Furlong secured the three points in Ferrycarrig tonight although the Youths may have to play better if they are to really threaten at the business end of the league. With Andy Mulligan injured, Youths started with ten of those who began against Cobh and went with Graham, Speedy, Gary, Lee, Craig C., Drukie, Craig W., Jonny, Eric and with Danny and Rocks up front. Wexford began well and, after two minutes, Drukie fed Danny behind the UCD defence but Danny's effort was pushed away for a corner. From that corner, the ball broke to Danny inside the six yard box who seemed to have to stoop to nod it home for 1-0 to the home side. Firs UCD effort came on the quarter hour but Graham Doyle got down to save a UCD shot on the turn. On the half hour, Rocks was found by a headed pass from Danny but Corbett in the UCD goal was able to save. Three minutes later, Danny was put through again and appeared to round the UCD keeper but the latter must have got a touch to the ball. With five minutes to go in the half, UCD had a free header about six yards out, but it ended up in Graham's arms. A half-chance each then finished the first period to leave the score at 1-0 to the home side. UCD were able to play some neat football up to half-way,but anything beyond that was being hoovered up by the impressive Wexford central defenders of Gary and Lee.

Second half wasn't great as the physically stronger Wexford team won most of the 50-50s and thereby denied UCD any chances until towards the end of the game. However, the home side also failed to make the game safe mainly by giving the ball away too cheaply and this is an aspect that Shane Keegan will have to work on for future games. After the hour mark, Conor English came on in place of Drukie for the Youths. First yellow of the match was shown midway through the second period for a tackle on Jonny Bonner. With 12 minutes to go, Peter Higgins came on in place of Jonny in midfield. With five minutes to go, Eric Molloy had a great run and shot, but Corbett in the UCD goal managed to palm it over the bar. UCD then applied some pressure right at the end and had one good chance to score when the ball broke to a UCD attacker about 12 yards out with Graham on the goal-line. But, instead of trying a shot, he passed it to another UCD attacker who was flagged offside and the chance was lost to leave the score at 1-0 to the Youths.

Best for Wexford were Gary and Lee at the back who dominated the UCD forwards while Danny and Rocks did well up front for the Youths. Crowd seemed to be disappointing with only 200 or so present. 1-0 to Wexford at full-time.
