how is cork to a lesser extent? shels beat some croatians and icelanders (very unconvincingly). we beat swedish and dutch teams and drew with a french team.

Its arguable that the teams Shels played were of a higher standard. Beating the champions of Croatia and drawing with Deportivo was no mean feat. Lille are a clear second in France at the mo.

NEC were crap, Malmo weren't up for it and Nantes haven't set the French league alight this year.

I'm not doing down City's performance (they played brilliantly in all the games) but you'd have to say Shels were probably of a higher standard.

Sligo Rovers drew at home, in the intertoto,in 96 i think it was, 0-0 with Heerenveen, and 3-3 with Nantes(they only equalised because of some of the remtards we had in our team).

Rovers outclassed both of those sides, with mostly new signings who hadn't yet gelled, way before any competitive matches. Those were great achievments. Then they lost twice away, which was embaressing.

it's in the irish psyche to play for the big occasions, which is why, as well as the league getting better, irish teams are getting better and more experienced in europe.
