View Full Version : Limerick FC v Bohemians Markets Field March 7th

So lads despite all the negativity surrounding the club in recent weeks one major positive is that after over 30 years since Limerick FC last graced the famous Markets Field we are set to return there in little over 4 weeks time. Judging by updates from the Markets Field facebook page work seems to be progressing at an impressive pace and things would appear to be well on schedule. Despite not having as strong a squad as many would have wished i would still think March 7th will be a hugely emotional and historic night for the club and its fans. I would expect ticket sales to be good and the buildup to begin in earnest in the next couple of weeks. Bring it on ....

Somebody mentioned that one of the builders said not a hope it will be ready in 4 weeks but Pat said yesterday it would.

What I saw from the gate anyway was a big stand without seats but surely the seats could be installed in 1 week, the rest (bar the pitch) is basically a mud bath with big mounds of earth and debris, I could be wrong but the popular side doesn't look prepared for anything because of all the site traffic and I reckon it would take about 2 weeks to have this graveled and rolled and then put in the steel then concrete!!!
The problem is they might have to wait for all the trucks and heavy machinery to finish first before this can be even started.

If Pat Sullivan went on radio during the week saying it will be ready and the club started looking for tenders for catering on match days as late as Thursday I am sure they have received cast iron assurances that the ground will be ready on time. The pr disaster would be unthinkable at this stage if the build does not come in on time. The next couple of weeks should prove very exciting on site.

Have you been following Limerick Fc long? Assurances and promises mean nothing, no matter where they come from. I really hope I'm wrong tho and I'm just hopeful we're playing there in 4 weeks and I'd settle for a draw :)

I think we will be playing in there but it could be at a reduced size. Maybe just the stand and North terrace and the away section open.

Which will still be fairly embarrassing. I mean honestly how has it gotten to the stage where we may have to play in it not anywhere near finished they have owned the thing for years at this stage. I keep hearing planning permission and the tender process but surely these things could all have been started a lot earlier. I actually dread to think what the management of the ground will be like in the future with the way the LEDP have started with it.

Picking up from the other thread, as it stands what kind of a starting team would you like to see or expect to see against Bohs?
.........................O'Donnell.............. .........
........Whitehead........Oji........Williams...... ..........
Turner......O'Connor.....Duggan.....Prince....Murp hy
.....................Mann...........Clarke........ ................
Ali Abass
Paudie O'Connor
Gavin Dillion
Val Feeney
Sean Russell
Darragh Rainsford
Have heard of a few more players that have been around recently but no idea if they are signing or regularly training.
That's presuming Oji and Prince will be here. It's not the worst starting 11 I've seen and I'm taking it that Russell will go for a 3-5-2.

Just under a week to the big KO and things are beginning to look a bit more positive with Jackman Park secured and the team recording a morale boosting munster senior cup win today over a strong Cork City outfit. Admittedly next week will be another step up in tempo and standard but i was pleasently surprised by how the young lads acquitted themselves today. I also got the sense today that the likes of Williams and Duggan are revelling in their roles as the experienced pros in the side and could prosper with the added responsibilities. Young O'Connor looked solid at the back and our new keeper could prove a revelation. Dean Clarke is a real poacher and has netted in all his games so far. Also confirmed today that Prince will be back. It would be massive to get three points against Bohs.

It will be a hard season but if the team play with the spirit that they showed yesterday against Cork yesterday,we should survive.paudie o connor is a solid young centre half but will he play every game?its when we pick up injuries and suspensions that will tell.hopefully we can get a good result next week against bohs.

Team against Cork will probably be the team against Bohs:
O Donnell
Harding
O'Connor
Williams
Costelloe
Mann
Duggan
O'Conor
Turner
Rainsford
Clarke
Probably the best of what we have at the minute tbh but I would rather switch Mann to the left and put Turner back on the right on the left we are taking away Turners biggest strength which I think is his delivery of a ball. At one stage yesterday him and Clarke broke 2 on 1 with a Cork player and he just could't get it across with his left. Id be happy with a point from this one and hopefully we get in another 2 or 3 signing soon then. Just glad to have the football back after all the troubles of the off season.

I'd be hoping we still bring in another centre half at the very least and if possible another striker.
I'm all for giving the young lads a chance but we are a few injuries away from disaster.

I'd have thought both would have been signed by now to be honest.
Heard the club made Hughes a terrible offer so would love to hear of something improved there and we get him in as he still hasn't signed with Galway.
If we are to get in Prince, Abass, Price, Hughes and Faherty that would be good bodies to bulk up the squad.

I reckon we might see Murphy in there for Costello as it seemed on Sunday like it was Shanes first game in a while. If Price signs I would imagine we could be looking at a back 4 of Harding, O'Connor, Price, Williams. Was impressed with Harding on Saturday and reckon he could become a fans favourite.

Harding had a good game Saturday great commitment and very comfortable on the ball agree with fans favourite going by his display Saturday , paudie o Connor was very impressive also and Robbie Williams very good looks like the goalkeeper could be a real find what a double save superb , a lot more positive about bohs game after Saturdays display I know we scored 3 but badly need another striker or scoring goals is going to be a problem could do with a physical presence up front look light weight

Harding is an exp pro who along with robbie and shane duggan and paul o'connor will add the experience needed to help the younger lads.i have seen paudie o'connor play a couple of times and he is an exciting prospect although a bit light and young.shane costelloe played well on sat like the whole team.they gave their all against a team of superstars?there wasnt any sign of price or faherty at the game on sat.i doubt if the club will be signing them now.the team still needs a few more bodies as it will struggle with injuries/suspensions during the season.take a lot of positives from sat though.keeper had a great game but he looked a bit dodgy under crosses and high balls a few times.
bluewhitearmy
03/03/2015, 8:52 AM
Don't think the keeper has a great game at all tbh kicking was poor flapped at crosses was at fault for their 3rd goal because of it and gave away a penalty when he should have never wen't to ground so quickly. Showed signs of what he is capable of with the double save but I hope Eddie Hickey can sort him out under crosses cos he has been poor at it every game I have seen him so far, I think Eddie will help him sort it though.
Jofspring
03/03/2015, 9:07 AM
Ya I was worried half way through to the game because nearly every corner or cross he came flapping out for the ball and a few times actually prevented our own players clearing it by jumping on top of them. Decision making like that needs to improve. If Ali is a bit safer in those situations there could be a good battle for the starting position.

Would agree with all the points re:keeper/crosses.he is a good keeper but he is young.eddie will have to get him to be more commanding in the box under crosses and high balls.its not that he is a small keeper.this is where a guy like oji helped a lot.barry ryan was an excellent keeper that would have brought conor on a bit but thats history now.hopefully the team can pull off a win on sat and maybe add a couple of more bodies to the team.
bluewhitearmy
03/03/2015, 9:42 AM
Look no matter who we brought in after Barry it was gonna be a step down so to go and get the best young keeper in the country and he is that was the best possible we could do imo. Yes we will have to deal with mistakes while he is learning but that is the same with every young keeper I have seen enough of him to know he is capable of saving a game for us too another one we just need to be patient with let him work away with Eddie and we could have another top keeper in the league on our hands in time.
Like delboy mentions above with Oji if we were to get a good commanding centre back in will do him the world of good.
Having looked at other squads too I don't think we are as bad off as I thought still not good but not a million miles behind the likes of Galway,Drogheda and Bray by any means.

Great news today re Price and Faherty.Exactly the kind of LOI experience this team needed. If you sub Price for Costelloe and Faherty for Rainsford you have a solid outfit for Bohs Saturday night with plenty of experience.Give me LOI experience like Price and Faherty ahead of Stuart Taylor's spice boys this time last year. Last year we had a plastic team in a plastic stadium that went through the motions and collected their cheque off Pat. I expect real football in a real football ground Saturday night and 11 lads playing for the jersey unlike the last two years.

Going by the info put up on the Limerick website they have erected a temporary stand for the away fans.

Judging by the ground layout looks like there is a temp stand behind the dressing room end and terrace designated for away fans and maybe a separate turnstile and pathway probably fenced off for away fans. According to Bohs message board they have a 50 seater bus filled as well as a large group coming by train so expect a good atmosphere...

A few security guards in the laneway, or a few guards if they're around, and it should be fine. There's not many teams fans I'd worry about causing trouble in Limerick.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of crowd shows up after that off-season and the stadium switch. Is 700+ optimistic or should we be expecting four figures for the first game at least?
Jofspring
06/03/2015, 10:09 AM
I'd be happy if we have around the 700 mark. Anything over that would be fantastic. It's very hard to know how people will react to the loss of so many players and the Markets Field falling through.

If the crowd is anywhere near 800-900, it should create a decent atmosphere which could overshadow anything else.
