what phones have a decent browser, which could open general websites or foot.ie even?

thpose sony's are €500-800 dependiong on tarrif, the newest ngage is ok but I recommend a PDA if you really want it badly, the o2 X

Some phones can use Opera as their browser, highly recommended -

a lot of people say blackberry alright. pity you cant take phones for a test drive so to speak

symbian fones like the NGAGE or other nokia camera fones can use opera or sometimes a built in browser.
