Time for his own thread. Now eligible to play for Cambridge after signing on with them a few months ago. No idea if he'll get any kind of nod for the FA Cup tie tomorrow, it'd be great though. Already rubbing shoulders with the establishment over there. (https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/557940631826612224)

One to keep an eye on definitely, on his game was a right handful for us. There were rumours of 30k Derby interest in the papers before the injury, iirc.

Apparently he's carrying a bit of a hamstring or ankle problem or something, so probably won't feature tonight. Shame. A few pieces n his arrival in Cambridge have talked about Limerick FC and the LOI a tiny bit: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Rory-Gaffney-Gearoid-Morrissey-settling-Cambridge/story-25827369-detail/story.html

Yea disappointed he was not playing, I watched some of it but switch over at half time as it was a bit boring.
Maybe he will be fit for the replay?

Gaffney and Gearoid Morrisey both on the bench for Cambridge against Man United tonight in the FA Cup replay.

Morrissey came on after 51mins. Gaffney was an unused sub. He, and Limerick, did get a little mention from the BT commentator though!

Well his contract runs until next summer so you'd think he'd stay. Morrissey being kept on too.

Has he played for Cambridge yet? I've been keeping an eye out and haven't seen him in any line-ups.

He's been injured since before he went over.

TheOneWhoKnocks

I think he made the bench for one of the cup games with United.

Charlie Darwin

Nope, he was in the dressing room with the team when BBC were filming in there, but he wasn't fit.

I hadn't checked up on him for a while. Not in the Cambridge squad for their game against Newport today, still injured. I don't believe he has actually played a single minute for the club yet.

NeverFeltBetter

Cambridge likely to loan him out if they can: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Rory-Gaffney-set-temporary-Cambridge-United/story-27675575-detail/story.html

Disappointing if he ends up a tier lower after the move.

Charlie Darwin
27/08/2015, 12:28 AM
Well it's the guts of a year since he played a game so a lower tier is probably the best thing for him.

Came on as a sub for his first Cambridge appearence, got an assist for an injury time winner (had a smashing volley well saved too): http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/10007838/cambridge-1-0-stevenage

My two-weekly check on Cambridge tells me he played again last weekend in a 2-2 draw with York, fans seem fairly happy with him, scored a goal in a friendly with Colchester recently too apparently: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Rory-Gaffney-wins-News-Cambridge-United-man-match/story-27923734-detail/story.html

Under a new manager now at Cambridge - Shaun Derry - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34790879 who started him today but took him off before the hour mark.

Hi all, I run a Bristol Rovers fans podcast and we have just signed Rory on loan. Made his debut on Saturday and impressed a few though was unlucky to have a goal dissallowed.

I was wondering if I could get any comments from you all on what we can expect from Rory at Rovers. His strengths, weaknesses, etc. Anything you can give me would be awesome!

Thanks in advance, :)

Harley

As the poster above me will happily know, Gaffney has scored 4 goals in his last two games for Bristol Rovers since his loan move. This has given Bristol 2-1 and 2-0 wins.

They are 5th in the table, 6 places and 7 points above Cambridge.

Paddy Garcia

Indeed & I suspect Harley will now be in a better position to comment on his strengths and weaknesses than we are!!

Welcome,

I'd be surprised if he didn't have goals at that level in him if he can stay injury free long enough to establish himself, but that perhaps is the if when it comes to him

Pacey powerful player, and not without a bit of skill too. Enjoyed watching him play always at Limerick.

That should be the end of his loan spell though. Maybe they'll sign him in the transfer window.

Charlie Darwin

Apparently Cambridge have done a u-turn over a proposed free transfer to Bristol Rovers and are now demanding a fee: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTOL-ROVERS-Goalposts-moved-slightly-bid-land/story-28455196-detail/story.html

Rory joined Bristol Rovers today on a permanent deal after paying 'an undisclosed fee' to Cambridge.

Hopefully he keeps scoring.

Olé Olé
14/01/2016, 3:27 PM
Couldn't blame them for seeking a fee, in fairness. And it suits the player himself as Rovers are well above Cambridge, who could have shown a bit more faith in him.

He's got a goal ever 116 minutes this season which is very impressive: http://int.soccerway.com/players/rory-gaffney/74916/

Crosby87
14/01/2016, 4:04 PM
It would be a huge Gaff not to seek a fee.

Great news, it'd be nice to see Bristol promoted with Gaffney there.

Checking back in with you guys after the excellent news that we've managed to get Rory in permenently.

We absolutely love him at Rovers (The Gas, as we are known). Rory has become a fans favourite already. Pace, power, and a great finish on him. If you haven't seen already - check out this montage of his goals for us thus far, some crackers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T1aM3Iq-3c

We are well and truly gunning for promotion now and Rory is sure to play a vital part in that push. We start on Sunday at Oxford who are quality but we are taking 3,000 fans and will be singing our Rory Gaffney chant loud and proud.

Also with regards to Cambridge playing hard ball with us, the reason we and Gaffers were so annoyed was because a week before his loan was up they told him he was free to leave and he discussed the deal with us, came to an agreement etc, and was ready to move down to Bristol. In his final week of the loan he played 2 and scored 4, Cambridge lost their loan striker and failed to get him back, so told him he was wanted there. But naturally he was p*ssed off because he loved it at The Gas and we showed much more faith in him than they ever did. Anyway, it's all been pushed through now, and I can't wait to see him back in a Rovers shirt.

UTG - it means UP THE GAS - a common Rovers phrase for anyone that wants to follow us from afar ;) My Irish league affinity is yet to be picked so get your offers in ;)

Played 85 minutes on Saturday, and his replacement scored an 88th minute penalty to help Bristol Rovers win 2-1.

I had a look on gaschat (no idea if that is the biggest Rovers forum) and the posters there seem very happy with him in general.

Bristol's form hasn't been great though and they've slipped out of the play-off spots.
