I'm not huge into the UFC at all Crosby. Sort of a fleeting interest. I'm a fan of all out martial arts, as it can be absolutely mesmerising at times, although, the wrestling side of UFC is a bit, for lack of a lesser word, sh!te.

There was a bit too much wrestling and not enough action in that fight for me.

As TOWK has alluded to, the other main card on the night was excellent, proper fighting, two men going at it. What the UFC and MMA in general should be.

I think the fighters (though visibly many are not entirely clean) are brave, but maybe it is that I am too old and set in my boxing ways that I don't understand the sport in kneeing someone unconscious then punching them in the head, or elbowing someone over and over in the head as they lie prone. I find the presentation of the whole event crass and cheap, yet it is lowest common denomination stuff for the playstation generation.

I don't hate the sport, I just object to it being called a sport and feel embarrassed as a human being by it.

Seagal is the real deal in Russia and he's actually quite clever with some of what he says - for example he has not been backwards in drawing parallels between US interference and Russian messing about, yet he has now been bought lock stock and barrel like Mr Green Card Asterix. He's at the US iconic level of Chuck Norris - ie giggle-worthy - here.

I think MMA is terrible. It has no class or skill to it like other forms of martial arts. If you look at other forms of martial arts it's about out thinking your opponent and out scoring him/her. Even in boxing that's the aim. But MMA is just about beating your opponent to a bloody mess. It is like watching to blokes outside a chipper on Friday night having a scrap!

It's an absolute disgrace that Andy Lee and Carl Frampton aren't getting the recognition they deserve. Both world champions, Frampton is probably the best super-bantam at the moment and if Lee can over come Saunders he could be knocking on the door a shot at either Cotto or Golovkin.

Anyway, I think UFC is a bit like a real action WWE. Dana White seems to like to push his favourite fighters. Conor McGregor is like John Cena, his has fan appeal and sells t-shirts - forget about talent and the like. I wouldn't be surprised if the fights and fixed like the wrestling.

Muhammad Ali was fiercely proud of his African heritage as well he should have been. Should the people who racially abused him and segregated his peers be exonerated because he played the "black" card.

I'm telling you this kind of stuff is letting the UFC down. It's only over 120 years since Irish people were called "white negros" and Black people were called "smoked Irish". It's only 60 odd years since the no Blacks, no dogs and no Irish signs were commonplace in commonwealth countries and America.

It makes me uncomfortable that this kind of stuff is still happening - to a smaller extent obviously.

It's going to be a hell of a night of fights. I'm really looking forward to Nelson v Maia and I think Gunni will upset the odds and stake his claim as a serious contender. Rockholt could well upset Weidman in the co-main event too, I think he has the power and the control to really hurt Weidman and get the finish. I've been a bit on the fence about McGregor but the closer it comes to fight night the more convinced I am he's going to get the job done, he seems incredibly relaxed, looks in much better physical shape that the Mendes fight and Aldo looks very tense and wound up.

My best mystic Mac prediction is about 2 mins into round one McGregor checks an Aldo inside leg kick and counters with his left hook, stagger Aldo, follows up with a right and another left, sends Aldo to the canvas and rains down ground and pound until big John McCarthy waves it off at 2 mins 49 seconds of round 1!

In the more boring alternative it's a very cagey fight that goes the distance and Aldo takes a narrow points decision as McGregor slows in the championship rounds and he repeatedly gets take to the ground.

I think pretty much everything McGregor has done is to mess with Aldo's head. Aldo came to the press conference in his full suit (allegedly wearing inserts in his shoes to boost his height) fully expecting McGregor in flash, big mouth, confrontation mode, only to find a chilled out McGregor in casual gear with no interest in aggressive confrontation whatsoever. I never really believed McGregor had got to Aldo mentally but watching the embedded and seeing Aldo's camp persistently describe McGregor as a madman, and Aldo looking so stiff and uncomfortable I really think his head might be gone.
