I guess this is as good as place as any to put this.
Suspensions kicking in 1st game of the season.
Or as DMCD put it on Twitter - "The annual disgrace - 15 players will miss first game of next season because they picked up just 4 bookings in 2014"
Not the greatest image,sorry.

So Shamrock Rovers will have 3 midfielders and first choice keeper suspended for the first game. Might be a good one to keep an eye on the bookies odds for. Three Brennan brothers all suspended, that's one for the family scrap book too.

Gave this its own thread. Yellow cards should be cancelled after a certain number of games, never mind just at season boundaries.

No worries, we can just give Boccer another go.

We have this debate every year.

You get four yellows card, you miss a match. Deal with it.

Agreed. Question nothing, accept all rules no matter how baffling and damaging to the integrity of the league.

Everybody now! "Oh my name is Joe McDonnell..."

Even better, that's not the first time that has happened. Gavin, Ryan & Sean were all suspended for Drogheda for the opening game of 2012 season (v Shamrock Rovers, Killian played).

Well... they do deal with it.

I personally think someone missing a game in 2015 because they got booked 4 times in nerly 40 games in 2014 is ridiculous but each to their own

His average is about 4 bookings per game

If this rule didn't exist, you would have a situation where a top of the table match like Dundalk/Cork could turn into a kicking match as any cards picked up would not matter. You do the crime - you do the time.

Or how about red cards still count but there's an amnesty so picking up 4 yellows across 40 games doesn't get you banned for a game five months later.

Yeah let red cards carry over, or if someone is suspended for the last 2/3 games due to an accumulation of cards and they still have a game to sit out carry that over, but 4 yellow cards over 33 games should be wiped out once the season is done.

League cup and FAI Cup games count too. SOmeone like Barry Murphy could have played nearly 40 times for Rovers

Something like a sliding window may work better- cards are expunged after say 16 games. If you reach four cards in that window you get a ban. (Or some other window, 16 is just an example) Reds could play in as part of a points system too but would still carry their own suspensions.
