I didn't think much of it. The panel was Roddy Collins, Fiona Looney (journo and Hoop), Liam Mackey (journo and retired Hoop), Eamon Collins (journo and Sligo Rovers fan), Harry Browne (ex-Shels chairman) and some bird off RTE (I suspect she was a last minute replacement after the FAI bottled sending someone).
I'm usually a fan of McWilliams (one of the few people in the media who have any time for the EL) but I thought he let the programme get too abstract. They started talking about a European Super League and what that would mean for English football. Then they went on to debate opening Croke Park, which is a bit irrelevant to a discussion on the EL.
The premise of the show was that the FAI aren't doing anything to promote the domestic game. Browne and Looney were the biggest supporters of the league; Collins said the EL is a place for players who can't make it in England, he came across as someone who treats the EL as a hobby until a 'proper' job comes along; Mackey came across as an ex-LoI fan who is now bitter and thinks we should all just watch the Premiership.
It's a pity the debate got so sidetracked, I thought it was a missed opportunity to make valid arguments. Fair play to McWilliams for making it an issue though.

Hey Passive, how come you gave no bracketed comment as to the status/character of Roddy Collins? If you could'nt think of any there are thousands of EL fans who could help you out. :p

Get over it. Nothing illegal happened. As he said himself all the negative crap is coming from people jealous he's got the biggest job. End of story.

I think the negative crap is coming from people who think he trys to run down the EL every time he can, is a spoofer and a one season wonder. And 'people' have thought that long before he took over the biggest job in the bottom two.

Christ he's so bad he was trying to take credit for Richie Forans scoring run in Scotland recently :D And Shels run in Europe was down to the great man himself too :D

Any show involving the appalling Looney creature could not possibly involve football.

Mind you, you could probably make the same argument about Collins!

Oi! Fiona's a mate of mine and a regular attender at Rovers. Unlike most national media types Fiona Looney is a hardcore eL supporter. Maybe it's the fact that she's a Hoop that bothers people.

Indeed he doesn't, although I thought it was funny when Fiona was talking and "Roddy Collins: Shamrock Rovers manager" came up on screen. Doubt Fiona was too pleased with that!
