CD predict the wrong result would ye.

Now i see us winning. Keep up this CD, you always get it wrong and hopefully your renewed (AB)pessismism gets us the wins we need.

Stephen Ward has withdrawn from the Ireland squad to face @ussoccer (https://twitter.com/ussoccer) this eve in @AVIVAStadium (https://twitter.com/AVIVAStadium) due to a minor knock to the ankle. #IrlUSA (https://twitter.com/hashtag/IrlUSA?src=hash)

I presume that means Clark will start. He was probably going to anyway.

The most interesting thing will be seeing how Steven Naismith integrates with the squad

Given, Christie, Pearce, Clark, Brady, Pilkington, Meyler, Quinn, Stokes, McGoldrick, Murphy

Well can't be said MON isn't giving his squad a game. Interesting to see he's gone with Brady at LB and Stokes possibly out wide, or off the striker(s).

Need to be smarter with team selection for these games. Clark or Pearce should be tested as a viable option alongside O'Shea with competitive games in mind. Would like to see Stokes given a chance up front at some stage.

Why is Given playing?

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2014, 6:53 PM
Was it Charlie D who said McGoldrick could really pick a pass? Finish and assist were both sublime there.

And I was HAMMERED for it. Paul O'Shea didn't predict that one.

TheOneWhoKnocks

That was beautiful by McGoldrick. Good to know Pilkington can replicate his club goalscoring form at this level. He was class against Italy too albeit poor in his competitive appearances. Agree RE: Given. Randolph deserves a game.

TheOneWhoKnocks

Brady beaten far too easily there.

Charlie Darwin
18/11/2014, 7:08 PM
They're giving him a very hard time down there, obviously identified him as a weakness. Or maybe they got the wrong teamsheet and think Ward is playing.

Murphy done very, very well; apart from the finish.

TheOneWhoKnocks
18/11/2014, 7:19 PM
Stokes impressing; showing good link up with Brady over the last several minutes.

Christie getting drawn all over the place. Very poor defending. That's why O'Shea should be in there.

So you're saying Robbie isn't? Does it ever end with ya!

SwanVsDalton

Rubbish defending there. All over an siopa. Shame, since we were the dominant team since the USA ran out of ideas about 20 minutes ago.

You know you are ****e when Altidore almost scores against you.

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2014, 7:29 PM
And there's why Brady's a risk at left back.

US are dicking us around a bit, much better patterns of passing and movement.

Blood and thunder by Clark. O'Dea-esque.

They spent half an hour giving us the ball, so I wouldn't go crazy. But Diskerud is exploiting our usual Naismith achilles heel between the lines.

I don't think we had the ball that much, to be honest. A few times they've been able to move the length of the field with a couple of first time passes, whereas our play isn't as fluid.

Our play isn't as fluid, but the US passed like drains for large periods of the first half. The goal came out of nowhere and they've regained their composure since.

Once again we just don't have anyone getting on the ball with fluidity or regularity. McGoldrick, Brady, Pikington and Stokes have done well with some ball to feet but no one interlinks or overlaps except occasionally down each wing.

DannyInvincible

A perfect pass through from McGoldrick and a lovely finish to match from Pilkington for our goal. We were all over the place for Diskerud's goal; criminal giving the ball away there like that after a throw-in.

Murphy should have put his chance away, but US could have had another through Altidore as well. Not much else to shout about from our perspective.

Not sure why Given started myself. I imagine Randolph will play the second half.

TheOneWhoKnocks
18/11/2014, 7:43 PM
I imagine Elliot will. He missed his honeymoon.

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2014, 7:44 PM
Given started because he's the second or third choice keeper so is more likely to see actual gametime. Plus he's rusty so could use the minutes.

The real question is why is he even in the squad.

TheOneWhoKnocks
18/11/2014, 7:49 PM
Put Coleman on the wing and move Stokes up front. Oh i forgot. We must not incur the wrath of Martinez.

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2014, 7:53 PM
Remind me not to praise Stokes' on-the-ball ability again - gives it away handy three times in four minutes.

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2014, 7:59 PM
Hey hey hey - good pressure, really good goal. G'wan Brady. He's looking a class act going forward. Lovely assist again from McGoldrick.

Not a bad period of play there. Good finish from Brady.

Bit of a fragmented performance particularly at the back but interesting all the same

Hehe, I suppose that question was implicit in my statement.

Why isn't Elliot still in the squad? He's not injured, is he?

DannyInvincible

Christie doing well also. McGoldrick and himself could be very useful additions to the Emerald Isle roster.

I thought he was still in the squad? Unless he was cut when O'Neill culled the provisional squad.

Cyrus Christie looks very good. Some fearless running, composed on the ball.

Pretty sure Elliot was cut from the squad post-preliminary.

Good save from Shay there.

Great showing from the two new boys. Two excellent assists from McGoldrick. 90% of strikers would have gone for that second goal themselves
