Germany do not look to be too threatening, they have possession but in fairly safe area, bit like when we have possession,
indeed like us, they look like they are never gonna score :D

What was Forde at?

tricky_colour

Ford saved our bacon there,I never even contemplated him getting to that ball and then suddenly he was there.

BonnieShels

Eh... He should've dine better. No matter.

McClean has been McGeady-esque with his crossing. ;)

tricky_colour

Yep that cross was something to behold put in with the touch of a drunken elephant.

You can see why they didn't beat Poland

It's almost worse than getting thrashed. I'm having a full kitten farm. But that's as good a first half as we could have hoped for.

Woeful first 15 then got a bit more organsied and only a poor individual error created a chance for Germany. Part from 'that' cross McLean has been Ireland's best player, composed and keeping the ball while attacking the full back when he can. Quinn looked decent once he settled too. Walters completely pointless as has been said on here he doesn't win headers yet he seems to be the outlet for long balls. It's going to be an interesting second half.

I'd say that situation suits us just fine.

Walters has won four or five headers. He'd probably competed for about 8 or 9. He's also been decent at holding the ball up when the ball's been punted out of defence a couple of times.

This is something I noticed during the World Cup, and it bugged me then.

Surely RTÉ can come up with more imaginative captions for their video packages at half/full time than...

Good *Insert Team Name* Play

Moving beyond Ronnie Whelan's doom mongering, I'm fairly satisfied with that half. Defended as well as we could have with a few exceptions. Think Meyler is having a good game. Central midfield not really in the game. Keane shouldn't be on the field, he isn't going to get much supply or possession against that defence, so the role should go to someone with a bit more pace and endurance at the very least.

If Germany score we are done, it'll just be a matter of how much they win by. Dunphy saying its Trap with a Derry accent. Check the scoreboard.

I don't want Keane dumped from the squad entirely, but you can't tell me the likes of Long wouldn't do just the same or better out there tonight.

Useless technique by Walters in good position.

We've come out a bit here. I counted 5 green shirts ahead of the ball there at one point. I don't know how wise this is.

NeverFeltBetter

Game really could have turned on a dime either way there. Probably going to be Ireland's best chance at one end, German counter attacks looking deadly at the other.

Before it all ends in tears, I want to say that Ireland have started the second half really well.

I'd say that situation suits us just fine.

Indeed, half of me thinks the same thing but the greedy half is hoping for an Ireland win.

We need a breather here. All starting to get a bit chaotic

Was time. Boatang got the ball there near the half way line and Keane was nowhere near him. McGeady tiring too, terrible decision not to lay it off for McClean just now.

We were 5-0 down at this point two years ago.

I'd like to see Long on but I'm conscious of how dangerous it would be to have no subs left. If someone got injured and we ended up down to 10 it would be a disaster

NeverFeltBetter
14/10/2014, 8:13 PM
Too much room. Great precision. No way back now I feel. Would do well to keep it at 1-0.

Was thinking the same thing as the Sky commentator Quinn should not have backed off there.

BonnieShels
14/10/2014, 8:13 PM
Screw the what ifs. There's no where a goal is coming here. The defending there was scandalous.

Quinn was deplorable.

Hoolahan on while chasing the game? Why can't we ever be positive.

NeverFeltBetter
14/10/2014, 8:25 PM
Ward should head off. No point in risking further injury here, Ireland have no way back.

NeverFeltBetter
14/10/2014, 8:27 PM
Never mind. What a glorious opportunity.

BonnieShels

First corner in the 85th mind. And it happened after our first piece of positive play. Ffs.

SwanVsDalton

Wes should've done much better there. Had plenty of time to play in in McGeady.

Strange to see the World's Greatest Football wasting that opportunity and falling on his arse.

Whats the odds Eamo doesn't show that at full time.

Certainly signs of improvement. Looked better organised for the most part than recently, the fight seemed to be back, the subs made an impact. Scotland game is huge now. Wow.

Poland Scotland draw, which is good for us I would say, we are level with Poland now
and have both played Germany away, so that is good considering Poland beat them.

BonnieShels
14/10/2014, 8:42 PM
Haven't jumped or screamed as much as that since Robbie scored in Paris.

Get in Josh.

Hoolahan has to start. The difference he made was obvious.

However he did put the ball in which lead to the goal so
I can't be too critical.

What an ending for the fans who went out there.
