How many will turn up for this match?...........................10,000+ would be a good crowd............!

Anything less than a 4-0 win would be an embarrassment!

I wonder will many be bothered about this one-sided game.....especially as its on TV and if you are travelling from outside Dublin and have to pay €50 for a ticket.

We got 14,000 in for the Oman game and I'd expect the attendance for this to be quite a bit higher

I was at the Oman game. Travelled from Belfast and never dreamt about not going. This one is also covered by my season ticket and I'm considering giving it a miss.

The weather on Saturday will probably be a deciding factor. Thunderstorms are forecast and I'm unlikely to invest 4 hours in a 200 mile round trip through a downfall to witness a mismatch or one of the greatest humiliations in Irish sporting history.

I think there will be a decent crowd. First competitve game in what seems like an eternity, good amount of publicity around Roy's book. Bought my ticket on ticketmaster today and no sections seemed overly empty. Perhaps they don't release all seats on that though. Here's hoping for a good atmosphere anyway :)

Darron Gibson 3-1 Gibraltar? Probably a fair enough prediction! It's always a bit unsettling when you make a serious post, Crosby.

25k max I reckon. Tbf, it's not a real international. For once FIFA are right.

We won't. Not even I'm that pessimistic. Are they even LOI Premier standard? I doubt it.

I'm not being pessimistic, we should win comfortably, but anything's possible. My point is that it is very much a real game, whether FIFA recognise it or not. They drew with Slovakia not too long ago and we know how they got on last night.

Except FIFA supercede UEFA and that Slovakia game was a pointless friendly. The theme park are rubbish and shouldn't be in the tournament, simply because they're not good enough, never mind not ever being a country.

Only via ST's, and there are approx a few thousand seats in that end...where the singers congregate!

It's the European Championships so FIFA have jack sh!t to do with it really. They're part of the tournament so whether you agree with it or not is irrelevant. I know it was a friendly but they still got a decent result against reasonably good opposition. San Marino in 2007 wasn't a friendly and we nearly came unstuck, I presume you didn't foresee us taking until the fifth minute of injury time to win that one? Or predict the draw in Vaduz?

For Gods sake there isn't even the slightest chance we won't win the game. They wont score even, i'm pretty sure of that. We will get at least 3, hopefully a few more.

So if FIFA rejected Gibraltar's application for membership, would it be correct that Ireland (or anyone else in the group) won't earn any coefficient points from a victory? I'm sure they wouldn't be worth very much anyway, but am curious all the same - apologies if that's been asked before.

And as to the result, if Ireland can't comfortably win a game like this, we don't have any right to talk about making the play-offs. This should be a non-contest, and it's up to us to get over our national anxiety about being the favourites, to show a little faith in ourselves for once.

Was in San Marino and Vaduz, both embarrassing but away games, v.legitimate countries. And as others have said, we'll win!
Get over it...

Amazed, if so, FAI trying to sell the dearer seats first I reckon, a ***** trick.
Try Slattery's, it's the new Ybig.ie meet-up or their site, be a load of spares tomorrow for such a mickey mouse game.

That's not that much of a handicap. If you were to have a team of just one player's abilities, then Ward would be one of our most versatile.

Ireland could have called up a First Division best XI (without any Shelbourne and Galway players as they are preparing for the playoff) and still win.

Why wouldn't he? It never did Zidane any harm!!!

On a serious note it's not really the done thing for professional athletes in this day and age. But the rub is that he isn't a professional athlete.

Is that a trace of a beer belly too?! Even a semi-pro shouldn't have a paunch in this day and age.

I'd like to see some good passing and possession, some well-worked goals, and good individual performances from the midfield/attacking players, but it'll probably be a slog. This really is a no-positives affair.

We win comfortably? It's only Gibraltar.
We win by only one or two goals? We really are dreadful, there's nothing MON can possibly do with these players.
Anything less than a win? Abbotstown burned to the ground. Soccer abolished in Ireland.

You pose an interesting question and it's not one I've seen asked yet. Just to be clear, the national team co-efficient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient#National_team_coefficient) usually refers to a UEFA ranking of European teams, towards which results against Gibraltar will count. I gather it's the FIFA ranking to which you're actually referring though. I would have to assume that FIFA simply won't acknowledge the results against Gibraltar for their ranking purposes. To be honest, it'll probably be to our benefit. If I recall correctly, France complained they'd been unfairly treated in terms of seeding for the World Cup 2014 UEFA qualifying play-offs as the determination as to which teams would fall into the two respective seeded and unseeded pots had been based upon the FIFA rankings. France had just finished second in the solitary group of five teams, so the FFF argued that all the other play-off teams had had two more competitive games than them allowing the others to accumulate more ranking points. I'm pretty certain, however, that France were actually shown to be better off without two games against sixth-pot minnows as avoiding such fixtures had meant there was no reduction in what was an average rather than purely accumulated calculation. The ranking points gained from such fixtures towards the overall total would have been so measly, they would have dragged the average over a set number of games down. I'm open to correction on that, but pretty sure that was the gist of it.

Yes I think as has been mentioned by others it is not unknown for top players to smoke.

It won't do you any harm, at least not in the short term I don't think, long term
is a different matter.
I seem to remember a while back there was a British female running athlete, medal
winning IIRC and I remember her saying her coach wanted her to stop smoking!!

Actually I think nicotine is a stimulaent so it might help, however it is pretty short acting
I think so you would have to be actually smoking whist on the pitch for it to have a positive effect.
It also causes a decrease in appetite which could have a real benefit if it helps control a persons
weight.

Oh and bye the way, when it is 0-0 after 50 mins.......

Keane is unlikely to start two games in four days, right? Please, someone, reassure me.

Hopefully McClean forces O'Neill to select him over Walters on Tuesday with a strong performance.

Interesting that Quinn isn't selected.

Hopefully Stokes or Murphy get a shot up front instead of Walters off the bench as I assume Long & Quinn will be the other subs in.

Hoolahan involved in all three goals. Would have been a nice gesture for Robbie to let Wes take the penalty seeing as he has 80 minutes to complete a hat-trick. C'est la vie. Minor gripe.

Hopefully Stokes, Murphy and Long come on to bag a few later.

Hoolahan & McGeady could lay off half a dozen more at this rate.

Was thinking the same... Isn't that 13-0 v San Marino a record? Could be under serious threat. Slightly encouraging that it took Poland so long to finish them off i.e. the second half.
