Why is that...That will be a disaster. Would there not be a much bigger crowd on a Saturday?

I'd say that they'd be more on Friday but thats not the point. What about people who need to get time off work or make travel arrangments? I think the whole thing is very unprofessional. Why dont they just fix it that all games are played at the same time on the last day of season and leave it at that ?

Somehow i think for this one i dont think it will matter. But normally Friday nights the better option.

If you want to change the date of a game within 10 days of the original date don't you need the away team to agree?

i think there will be a big crowd at this game no matter when its played. It was advertised up to now as being on a Saturday so they should just leave it at that.

Its on the official website so it must have been agreed with Bohs. I don't agree though. Too close to the game to change the date now.

We'd be going mad if we were away as it would affect arrangements for travelling fans.

I wish they would make up their minds :(
If City and Shels win tonight then last games will affect final positions and according to EL statement must be played on Sat 20th.
Playing on Friday is fine by me (as long as it's not Sun. afternoon, viva la floodlights), I just wish that for once they stick to a plan and stop fcuking around and changing their minds on a whim :(

Both, the real one in one ground, and a replica in the other. Thats whats happened in previous years anyways.

Dont be worrying about crowds at all. If City win tonight no matter what it will be played on saturday full stop

I'm not sure about that.

According to the City website if Bohs are 4 or more points ahead of Drogs after tonight both the City Bohs AND PAts Shels games will be played next Friday.

That implies that those 4 clubs have agreed those arrangements and if City and Bohs both win tonight the game will be on next Friday.

I think its a joke that we're even discussing the date of the last series of games so close to the date they were set for.

The league shouldn't have left it open to clubs to move those games once Saturday was decided.

again, on a purely selfish level, i hope it goes ahead on friday!
as for the games needing to be played simultaneously, as shels also play fri nights, it would suit them too.
Finally, while i agree with the confusion this creates - although it's not that massive a logistical deal to change plans in fairness - are people not agreed that attendences are highest in cork, regularly, when played fri nights??

Gary

^^^

There is no doubting that Fridays are by far and away the best night for City, and probably most other clubs in the country as well.

I just think its a joke that the KO time cant be decided 1st day, whren the fixtures are being made. It creates havoc with peoples plans.

It doesnt make too much of a difference to fellas who are living in Cork, but what about the exiles who were probably happy that they didnt have to take another half day? Or others who have now made plans for next Friday?

Why the hell did all the Friday night clubs have to change to Saturday in the first place? Why couldn't the couple who normally play Saturdays have changed to the Friday?

That said, they should just leave things be and play them all on Saturday now...

This is the crap that kills our league; making it up as we go along!

If I was a Bohs fan planning to go to the game I'd be disgusted that Bohs had agreed to a change, after probably making travel/accommodation arrangements.

Why did Bohs agree? Surely they'd have a better support on a Saturday and they get no beneift from City having greater gate receipts on Friday.

as an exile, i was pleased i'd be definitely able to make the game, no pressure. then at the last second it might be changed. if i'd known i coulda factored in the friday, now i've got to scramble to make sure i'll be there. once the change to saturday had been announced, it shouldn't be changed again, and all teams should have to play at the same time, regardless of whether it has an impact on the final standings, it adds to a sense of occasion.

Derry's last game is away to Waterford I think.

Anyway didn't they play the cup semi at home on a Friday night?

Dunno, Schumi - but maybe we should just get Bord na gCon to run the league altogether if that's the case. In any event, I think Derry are playing in Waterford...?

Congrats on your promotion, btw. It may not be overly popular with non-Dubs in general, but it's an achievement to clock up that number of points in any league. Well done.

The official site says that if Bohs stay 4 ahead of Drogs, the City Bohs game, and Shels SPA game can go ahead on the Friday.

Does that mean its possible that they will change it, or does it mean it will go ahead next saturday???

With a big crowd expected for both games, the gardai may object.

Do city need to score 7 goals more than Shels on Friday?
Is goals scored the deciding factor or goals difference?

I'd say that if the 2 teams finish level on goal difference, goals scored will be the next option.

For CCFC to win the league two things need to happen: City must win AND Shels must lose. The number of goals scored/conceded by either side in the two games is actually irrelevant in the circumstances.

A City win combined with a Shels defeat will give City the title on goal difference - the only way we can win it. This combination, regardless of the actual scores, will ensure City's GD is superior. The teams are currently level on +20 goals.

We need to win and have them lose. 1-0 will do as long as Shels blow it/Pats do us a huge favour and remember their 'stolen' title :) . Shels just need to avoid defeat.

Be mighty interesting, I have a feeling...and I'm not without hope, no sirree!

agreed. I reckon pats might just do it. regardless of how it goes, its been some achievement for us to close the gap so much. absolutely brilliant effort from the lads.

as for the change back to friday- ridiculous. people have to go and change work and everything now, the fixtures in this league are a disaster

Fenlon looks to finish with a victory
Emmet Malone, Soccer Correspondent

National League decisive games
If recent experience of title races that go the distance is anything to go by then about 9.15 tonight they'll be celebrating down at Turner's Cross. Logic may suggest it is the current leaders of the Eircom League, Shelbourne, who will clinch another championship but history is most definitely in the Cork City corner and sometimes, it seems, that it is the most powerful force of all.
This will be the sixth time in 13 seasons the destination of the domestic game's biggest prize is decided by the last round of games. In four of the previous five the team in front at kick-off time has lost out with Shelbourne the victims in both 1998 and 2001.

Pat Fenlon has long insisted the record doesn't concern him but at a club that, more than any other these days, budgets for success the pressure will be intense as he and his players head for Inchicore for tonight's televised game. Despite having shown somewhat erratic form in recent weeks Shelbourne should be capable of beating a St Patrick's side that long looked threatened with relegation and only last week became the first team since early August to be beaten by Shamrock Rovers.

The visitors don't need to win, however, for a point against a team they have already beaten three times in the league this season would be enough to guarantee them the championship and another crack at the Champions League qualifiers next year. Even defeat would not be fatal if Cork fail to beat Bohemians. Needless to say Fenlon insists his men will aim to take all three points.

"We are going for a win," he says, "we're not looking for a point. You might be a bit cautious in European games but in our own league we feel we're capable of beating teams and this game is no different. It's a tough game but if we perform we should be able to pick up the points we need."

The league leaders are without suspended centre back Dave Rogers who will almost certainly be replaced by Kevin Doherty while Owen Heary and Wes Hoolahan have been troubled by a stomach bug but both should be fit to feature from the start.

Heary's presence will be particularly important to Fenlon on a night when his team need only keep a clean sheet to be sure of being crowned champions but most important will be the team's ability to keep its nerve.

It's an issue that has niggled with Fenlon in recent weeks. Now, he insists, his players will take their opportunity to show they have both the character and appetite for success required to be champions.

"The players confirmed their character last year when Bohs went ahead of us but we clawed it back," he said. "This year they have played in some of the top countries in Europe and held their own. We want to be there every season. The Champions League is where the club want to be."

Cork City, of course, want to be there too and Dolan could cite his own side's achievements in the InterToto Cup as evidence Shelbourne are not the only club here capable of approaching next year's early qualifying rounds with some degree of confidence.

Before they get the chance, however, Dolan knows they must win tonight and hope for good news, just as his St Patrick's Athletic side did in 1998 when victory at Buckley Park combined with Shelbourne's defeat by Dundalk earned them the title.

"If we don't get it right at our end there's no chance of winning the title, that's the first thing," he says. "So we'll look at it the way we do any other game - like our lives depend on it and we need the win. If we get the result then we can start worrying about what happens in Dublin but until then there's no point, we have to concentrate on doing our best here."

Dolan is without George O'Callaghan who is suspended and may also be missing the hero of the club's emphatic revival of late, Kevin Doyle, who has been struggling with a foot injury. Joe Gamble will start in midfield for O'Callaghan while Neale Fenn would replace Doyle if the young striker misses out.

The game is set to draw the largest attendance of the league season with 4,500 tickets having been sold by Wednesday evening but, like the one at Richmond Park, it is subject to a pitch inspection. The Dublin derby was last night felt to be the more vulnerable but if either ground is felt to be unplayable then both will be rescheduled, probably for Sunday afternoon.

Dublin City's game with Shamrock Rovers, which had to be called off last night, has already been refixed for Sunday (3 p.m.).

Red FM: Win lose or draw it has been an absolutely brilliant season.

Pat Dolan: "yea.. i just hope its the start of something. I really feel that there have been other clubs competing against us that have been here year on year, have invested heavily as a football club, have the structures in place and I just hope we can reward the supporters for the away support we've had. the Rebl Army, I think thats been the story of the season. forget about the players, forget about.... you know the supporters we have.. you know... the way we get treated around this town, the goodwill towards us since i've come down here, the way the cork public have looked after me, made me feel at home, you know it makes me feel very proud and I'd just like to thank everyone on behalf of the players for their support because we do feel it, we love it and we give it everything every single day and we just hope its the start of something, because you know if we get things right we can have wonderful times here because you know what, this is the best football city in the country"
