Kildare County have been dealt a blow in the closing stages of the season with the news that assistant manager John Ryan has left the club due to personal reasons.

Ryan made the announcement after County’s win over Kilkenny City that lifted them to within two points of third placed Bray Wanderers with two games remaining.

The former Bray Wanderers striker, who scored a hat trick for the Seagulls in the 1990 FAI Cup final win over non-League St Francis worked as caretaker manager of Kildare following Dermot Keely’s resignation last year.

When Eric Hannigan was appointed as manager, Ryan stayed with the club as assistant and has helped guide them within touching distance of the eircom Premier Division.

The thoroughbreds have two games remaining and face a tough test against leaders Finn Harps on Saturday night in a must win game for both sides.

It was over, but then you lot started dropping points, (which hopefully will continue tonight) allowing us to get back into the picture of things.

An extraordinary time for him to resign with just a few games to go and a slight possibility of promotion still existing. What is the real story here?

Good luck to Kildare next season- hope you win promotion and we stay up.
Going to Kildare is a nice trip to make but I'd say it would be even better in the Premier ;) .

If ye do go up will youstill be in the same stadium or what? The standard is decent enough but it probably would'nt hold enough people for big games with some of the big travelling support that some Premier teams have.

Plans are ongoing to put another stand on the opposite side. Where or how they are going to get the money, I don't know. The club leases the ground from Leinster Senior league side Newbridge Town FC, so we don't really know what the deal is. From what I understand, Kildare County will be playing at Station Rd for the foreseeable future and I don't hear of any plans for them to have their own ground at this point in time.
