Looking back some of the best memories from the Clare League were of Paddy sending off/booking people before/after a game, booking subs that have come on too soon, booking people that have been taken off and generally just booking everyone that disagreed with him. If he didn't like you, you'd know about it! Some laugh though when you look back at it!;)

What I love is when people give out about decisions by ref, these same people who are standing on the sidelines (a good distance away) but feel they saw the challenge and know the correct decisions[/QUOTE]
Your obviously in the know - what it like being a ref in the Clare League ?

played enough games and watched enough games to see what abuse the refs get and the undermining of their decisions. I now appreciate the hard work they do and yes I agree they get it wrong at times, but who is to say the opinion from the sideline is right. Most of the time its the two players involved that know the truth, and with that even when they do they try to gain an advantage even if they were the foulers etc....tough being a ref.

Sure avenue have been taking players from other clubs for years.. but all of a sudden 2 lads leave and they are slated for leaving club.. I wonder if davy mccarthy went back to Lifford would he have got slated .. I doubt it.. typical avenue they know they are not going to win the league and start making excuses already. Haha how sad..maybe they should start looking at why players are leaving especially Smyth

Second, you well know its not the same going from Ave to Lifford. Surely you can see the problem is going from Ave to Newmarket. Davy knows himself he should have went at the start of season and not played 5 games with Avenue. Considering its well known the deal was done as far as March last year for Davy to go. So why did Smyth leave since you seem so informed?

Second is a spoofer, he's always ill informed, think his ego took a bit of a knock last few years, not quite the messiah he makes himself out to be..

Smyth left because of o malley .. everyone knows that.. John is a great club man but should not be manager he can't go around doing what he wants..He should let someone else take charge and keep up he good work he does on commitee

I have seen multiple managers sent off last year. The semi final was an isolated incident, a once off which everyone knows was wrong. What has that got to do with Smyth leaving?

Mike McNamara (Bridge Utd)
Stephen Hickey (Ennis Town)
Steven McGann (Avenue Utd)
Alan Roche (Avenue Utd)
Mark Roche (Avenue Utd)
Maccon Byrne (Burren Utd)
Brian Monaghan (Bridge Utd)
The lads left Avenue because there's obviously bad moral in the camp. From the outside looking in it doesn't seem to be a good place to be playing at the moment.
Best of luck to the Oscar traynors this weekend. €5 entry fee? I think I'll be jumping the wall :)

Didn't Darren Murphy get Man of the Match v Limerick whilst playing in first division? Had Shane Clarke in his pocket..
Maccon Byrne is the best option Clare have at left full back.

He isn't. Long way behind others

Would that not have made him leagues leading scorer?
Surely he would have started against Newmarket in the league with a record that good.

Good player Darren but if my memory is correct Clarke scored 2 that night. I stand to be corrected.

The Burren's left back?
Eoin how much of the second division are you watching?
As for the game Saturday I think Clare will take a defensive approach with a long ball game to a target man as this seems to be Mick's football ethos. It will be a tough ask against a side with a lot of LOI experience but whatever side he picks will be well drilled.
Good luck to all involved.

So Darren cullinan and David o grady start most weeks on the newmarket team yet you think they shouldn't be on squad.2 lads with loads of experience.. who's the spoofer now.. you haven't a clue about football..

I haven't seen enough of the non Newmarket lads to judge them off hand. Plus the fact that I believe that my brother is the best left-back in the county but I might be biased.
As for young Ian Collins, he is a player with excellent talent and if called upon will not be one bit phased by any of it. We in Newmarket are lucky enough to see this player and others develop week in, week out and are delighted that this is recognised by others with his inclusion in the OT squad. Even having the young fella around the squad will benefit him and us (Newmarket and Clare) in the long term. To dismiss him off hand shows you either haven't seen the contribution he has made at the latter end of last season and this season to Newmarket. If you have then clearly it confirms to me that you know nothing about football.

Also mean't to ask you about this. The other lads are grown men so I won't comment on them and also the fact I haven't seen enough of the non Newmarket lads to judge them off hand. Plus the fact that I believe that my brother is the best left-back in the county but I might be biased.

First, who are the better out and out forwards in the division, a striker or number 9.

Conventional number 9's Stephen Hickey and Garry Higgins. I would add Mike Mahoney to the list but he is not a number 9.
Not many clubs are playing with a decent number 9 but if you broaden it to frontmen he is along way down the list.
I use our club as the barometer and I couldn't see him being in the top 6 for inclusion up front. I am not having a go at Mike, I don't know him but from what I have seen he has a bit to go to be seriously considered for a start in an OT side.

True about lack of number 9s in the league. But its a feature all over soccer really. No real forward whos stay width of the box and no more. Hickey hasnt done much in recent times, no interest it seems. Dnt think he is playing this year either. All games I have seen Higgins on the left. Defo think Mike should be in the squad at least. Who is the sub keeper does anyone know??

Didn't see the 1st half but Paddy o' Malley put Clare 2- 1 up with about 20 mins to go , then Corry in the Clare midfield got sent off with less than 5 to go and then the home side conceded a penalty which Galway scored with about 2 mins left. It felt like 2 points dropped but a draw was probably a fair result. Clare have a pretty decent side albeit playing without an out and out centre forward, i reckon Kerin at Avenue could do a job up front for them and at the same time free up Stephen Kelly. thought Hayes was excellent and the rest of the lads all played well , small crowd as usual.
