Bit harsh on Darryl lads. He took on Rock last year with Slim and the lads and turned them from relegation fodder to League Champions and unbeaten in over 20 league matches. Any of the lads I have chatted to will attribute that league win to a lot of Darryls work. He may not be the same player but he brings a hell of a lot more to the team than his playing ability. Rock will be fine this year. Once they get the footballers back they will be top 4 and competing for 2nd with Bridge and Avenue. Newmarket obviously in a league of their own in Clare.

How is the new OT team shaping up?

John Mul, Gavin Whyte, Paddy Purcell, Darren Murphy, David O Grady, Gary Higgins, Darragh Corry, Alan Kelly, Daryll Eade, Eoin Hayes and Davy McCarthy was the starting team.

Surprised Rock made decision to go to Newmarket for the game in the end. I know the pitch is tight down there but itl be a foreign ground to them. At least they had a few games played on the county grounds last year.

Keeping the score down and avoiding an embarrassment like last weekend should be their priority.

seems like Olympic gave the super powers of Newmarket a real game this time. Any match report melon? Newmarket controlled the game, Hayeso scored 1st, ray levelled it and Eoin O Brien headed home the winner. Newmarket hit the woodwork 4-5 times, Olympic kept the shape and defended well had 1 or 2 half chances to level it.

Who is playing with Rinneanna this year, has the Newtown pitch brought back a few Newtown faithful, will they challenge for the second division at all?

Yep I think they are. Mixed bag of results really for them. Corofin had 4 sent off last week surely they were missing today. And Tage still couldn beat them.

Tulla had 6 shots on goal - some wonder goals , also some wonder refereeing - how can FC give a penalty from the half way line - beggers belief -
Pitch was in good nic but agree , could have taking another cut

Rineanna keeper made 1 or 2 good saves he did a bit to redeem himself, and you know what your getting when that Ref turns up, he had some good one liners defending his decisions

League really need to address this refs behaviour. He seems to have taken it to a whole new level this season. Are the assessors ever attending his games. Disappointed to see him given an FAI 3rd round game. Not happy to see him down for underage games either, likely to say / do anything.

surely because he believes there was a foul ;)?

the distance that refs are away obviously make it harder to get calls right but all that's matters is there opinion on what happened at that time. We all give ref's a hard time if anything from watching tv it shows that even at the top level they get calls wrong and even with tv replays its hard to call.

The TV refs have the support of a linesman , so your comparision is baseless - all you would ask is that a ref moves outside the center circle and give it his best effort - by the way is there a certain fitness leve required by refs now or is it just a blessing that we still have these guys avaialbe to ref , i 'm not knowcking the job they do , wouldnt go near it with a barge poll , but surly there is a standard ?

they get assements during the year on their performances and have to take a fitness test before new season starts ... but with shortage of refs i would imagine they would have to be extremly bad for the league to stop using them.. agree with you planners if they give it their best effort and move about try and keep up with play ... but again it is a thankless job and its always the ref's fault when we lose :D

planners you had a few awkard refs when you were playing . Paddy dunne / carl o neil / noel coughlan ( mr red card) and talking of centre circles bubbles mc inerney!!

Have to say Paddy was my favourite in a sadistic kind of way - Quote " get your ig enough to look after yourself " this would probably be after getting hack doen by a Newtown center half !

c
even with the assistance of linesman, those refs still get decisions wrong, so how is it not comparable?

What I love is when people give out about decisions by ref, these same people who are standing on the sidelines (a good distance away) but feel they saw the challenge and know the correct decisions
