I think any club that fields 20 teams is big enough to be considered huge

Would take anything you say about Shannon town with a pinch of salt. Sounds like **** stirring as regards quoting anonymous committee members

If they are as good as you suggest why not put them into the premier , rather than letting them **** through the 1st div for a season ?

I agree must be an ex newtown current hibs man trying to stir it up. . He should really look at his own club and try help them get sorted it.. rumour has it they could be folding very shortly too.. seems the emalgimation hasn't worked out too well..no teams from u12s up to junior not great from what was 2 great clubs.. I think shannon town should start in 1st division and will be up near the top come end of season..They will need to get all there good young players back from clubs like newmarket and bridge though if they want to challenge for honours in clare..
Can only be good for football in clare if town have 20 teams that must be close to 300 players..
don't panic

don't agree .. you need success league titles / cups etc and decent facilities for the players don't see this at Shannon town they have a great underage set-up but a/b teams struggling last couple of seasons Their A team today for cup game 13 players no goalkeeper ?

don't panic hibs will unfortunately try to stay in limerick and kid themselves everything is going well and they may even pick up a few players from Shannon town im sure there will be a few lads not keen on playing clare league football.

lots of rumours every year with hibs ... the old newtown reforming starting again. plenty of problems above at riverside and not easy to solve , why are town not going into div 3 as a new club ?
and if such a great club why are all their good young players out in Newmarket / bridge .. but do agree it is good for football in clare

cant comment as nothing to do with clare soccer ;)
was not at the game but heard ref abandoned game with hibs 2-1 up twenty mins to go hibs player sent off and allegedly threatened ref ... looking at long ban if true and if league get bad report from ref and hibs will probally lose points now as well

Old git thanks for pm .. but in all fairness he probably told you that in the lodge and also what does he know about junior football.. He is an underage manager as far as I know so wouldn't know too much about junior in clare. Shannon town will start at best in division 1.

Best players at u16 and u18 level leaving both shannon teams because they will get a chance at playing for clare youths. The limk league don't reconise the clare players unfortunately
Its amazing how much hypothetical chat about Shannon football gets posted on here. Maybe ye're trying to deflect from Newmarket's win yesterday :)
Congrats to Newmarket anyway. Brilliant to win away from home like that and hopefully they can go all the way now. Any reports on the game?

How many junior sides do Shannon town have , and again why not put their 1st team straight into premier ?
You cant just put a team from a new league straight into the Premier. Totally unfair to the teams in this years First Division. If Shannon Town do return to the Clare League you could make an argument for them having to start in the Third Division and work their way up. I don't think that's right either but it makes more sense than them getting a bye directly to the Premier. I'm sure the FAI has rules on this anyway

It's a tricky one, 3rd div should be the place but that would seem unfair on everyone involved , but you already have a situation in the 1st div where Avenue seem to be the strongest side and will be stuck there again next season and now you want to put a side that would be something of the standard of Bridge utd A or Shannon Olympic in there as well , hardly seems fair on the other 1st division teams.

Lads can i just make a comment that RR unfortunatly took a turn and closed shop for a couple of seasons , on their return started in the 3rd division which was fair enough , i cannot understandall the talk that a club like ST can jump in to the 1st division -
if they plan on building then they have to start at the bottom , the foundation - otherwise , IMO, you are a club without substance .
And who's to say they are good enough !!!!!!!

Well you could say that when RR reformed that they were essentially a new club coming into the league as they didn't exist for a few years so it's only Natural they start in the 3rd division. Shannon town are an existing club that are playing in the 2nd tier of limerick football which would in most people's opinion be stronger than the 1st division in clare socce. So I think it's only fair they start in the equivalent division to what they are playing in limerick

I know this town is a plague for rumours but pretty sure it's true pending admission from each league that is. Think they'll somewhat walk division 1 if put in there aswel. Providing they keep there current players. Heard a few of there B team players not happy with the move though and would move to Hibs if it happens.

Shannon town are a new club applying to join the clare league they going by the rules they should be going into 3rd division but as they also have a B team maybe this is the reason they are not going into 3rd Division. did Coole an Existing club not join from galway league a couple of years back and had to go into the 3rd Division ?

the only thing that can stop Shannon town joining clare league is the limerick league not releasing them .. I would also not be surprised if a few A team players not happy with the move all the talk I have heard is how it is going to benefit the underage players

I think it's a great move for town when it happens(not if it happens)..let's be honest were they ever going to be good enough for premier in Limerick!!! The benefit of the move is mainly for schoolboys but surely some of the junior players would be thinking they have a chance at playing oscor traynor level and a league medal in their first year..

The only players I could see going back hibs and still don't think they will is rob wall and maybe jamie Cullen, shannon town seem to have a good bond throughout the club for years now which IMO players been there for years now won't leave, as said by coolcat coming to the clare league with a chance of winning things and possible OT squad positions.

Good points. If going by the rules which they should they should be in 2nd division.

Not too sure about the benefit to football in Shannon with this move. Still the same old problem of too many clubs in Shannon trying to compete for players (Players that are fickle and will move if not getting a game (that happens everywhere these days), Players that are not really committed, considering talk of them have 12 and 13 players showing up for games) . Can't see any major progress for ST unless the number of teams in Shannon reduce, or there is amalgamation.
Regarding the standard comparison - ST not in top 6 of 1A in Limerick, would be no where near the top of Clare premier league. There are weak teams in Clare and in Clare prem. ST would prob be safe in the Prem, but a long way off the top as things stand.

football unites ... the old to many clubs in Shannon theory is not the problem .. for example hibs / town amalgamate how many of the current hibs players would start for Shannon town 1-3 maybe so no real benefit here ,.. agree on fickle players to many players to willing to drop down divisions to play in 3rd division in clare the last couple of seasons or leave to join other clubs when the going got tough .. we will find out next season how good Shannon town are and if they go into 1st division they will find it tough to get promoted

The fight for promotion in the 1st division looks to be heating up, with connelly Celtic losing yesterday and all the teams around them winning. Looks to be 6 teams outside of avenue(can't get promoted) fighting for the 3 promotion spots
