Eircom League chairman steps down
Friday, November 05 2004 5:21
The eircom League has announced that Declan Ó Luanaigh has, as of yesterday, resigned as chairman of the league and from the board of management of the FAI.
Ó Luanaigh's departure is the second this week for the troubled association after chief executive Fran Rooney also left Merrion Square.
The matter will be discussed at Monday's meeting of the league's board of control. However, the authority to appoint a successor rests with the league's 22-person management committee, which is scheduled to meet next on November 30.
In light of Ó Luanaigh's resignation though, it is expected that the meeting will now take place on an earlier date.
Ó Luanaigh had taken over the role, initially in a caretaker capacity, from Brendan Dillon, who quit the job in January of this year.
What does this mean for the eL? It says under his picture that he was one of Rooney's few allies.
