Adrian Mutu's agent Gheorghe Popescu has claimed his client will join a new club within a matter of weeks.

The disgraced Chelsea striker, who was sacked by The Blues at the end of last month and banned for seven months, is available on a free transfer.

Popescu is in talks with a number of clubs and is hoping a swift solution can be found regarding Mutu's future.

The Romanian will not be returning to his homeland or joining a Ukraine outfit, but instead will be penning a deal with a major European force.

But why would anyone want him yet when he's banned for seven months?

Because he's a proven international striker available on a free. 7 months in the grand scheme of things is nothing, as I've said elsewhere some injuries last longer than that. And when his ban ends he'll be in peak condition, with no chance of injuries between then and now.

I know he's a proven international but because of this, his wage demands will be high and signing him now means paying high wages for a player who you have no use of for seven months.

My guess is they'll probably stipulate that his contract doesnt start till the ban is served. They could well do that and pay him the signing on fee now. He can still train so he should be in decent physical shape and ready to resume as soon as the ban ends. I think he'd be a good signing given he's on a free - would serve Chelsea right too. Fair enough they sacked him, but to ask the FA for an extra ban is taking the p*ss and clearly shows that Morinho or Kenyon wants to wreck his career.

Hope he scores a hattrick next time he plays them.

Well maybe he wont be joining a club yet:

Disgraced Adrian Mutu has been offered
a job as Romania's assistant coach.

Romanian striker Mutu was banned for
seven months by the FA this week after
being sacked by Chelsea for gross
misconduct after failing a drugs test.

Now he has been offered the chance to
spend his suspension coaching Romania's
national side.

Very good opportunity for him, as it will open doors for when his playing career is over for real. I hope he takes this, it would do him good to get back to basics for a while, away from London.
