Nice work from Wilkinson, nightmare for the keeper!

Lovely ball from Cullen, who's supposed to be playing very well. I saw a few minutes, seem to be passing the ball around very well but Lithuania looked dreadful. Shocking goalkeeping for Wilkinson's goal but a nice bit of skill by him to wrong foot the defender at the edge of the box.

Alan Browne finished off the third and Josh Cullen took the man of the match award. Positive to see those two young midfield players making an impression at that level for us. Browne getting game time in the Championship with Preston and Cullen in/ in and around the first team squad at West Ham. Only picked up on this now- Sean Maguire is fairly confident Cullen is a keeper: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/fake-paddy-josh-cullen-is-a-class-act-reveals-former-teammate-sean-maguire-31497533.html

Is there a U19 thread? 89th minute equaliser for Ireland at home to Ukraine. 1-1.

Respectable.

One of the most blatant and stupid yellow card offenses ever committed, right in front of the ref and the Italian beggarly protests like a drama queen.

FT: Italy 1 Ireland 0

Thought we played well - dissappointing result - but played some good stuff imo

Some nice intricate moves ....refreshing to see after what we had to watch how our senior team played on Sunday night

Had some great chances to score - Dylan connolly probably should have levelled with 10 mins to go

Dylan connolly probably should have levelled with 10 mins to go

That's being generous, he had time for a cup of tea at the back post before not even managing to work the keeper from about six yards.

Blast, Italy were nothing special. Should have got a draw there, especially after they went down to 10.

Does anyone know how those lads we have at Reading are getting on- Pierce Sweeney, Sean Long and Shane Griffin? They all seem to be in and around the first team squad and are mainstays in our underage squads but none of them seem to have had runs in the Reading team nor loans to lower league sides.

I see Reading are third in the under 21 league and the three of them seem to be ever-present in that side (as does Liam Kelly).

Charlie Darwin

Sweeney rumoured to be coming back to Ireland. Not sure about the rest, but Clarke's not really the kind of manager to take a chance on young players.

Decent shout re Aldo. Surprised he never got another chance after a decent run with Tranmere. I know it ended badly, but are football management careers like political careers in that respect. In any case where are they now?

few calls ups before the friendly against Norway tonight in Waterford: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/55502/2016/999942364?tab=preview

Amongst those brought in are Shamrock Rovers midfielder Brandon Miele, Cork City midfielder Kevin O’Connor, Liverpool defender Dan Cleary and Birmingham City defender Noe Baba while there are recalls for St Patrick’s Athletic defender Lee Desmond, Tottenham’s Kenny McEvoy, Manchester City's Ian Lawlor and Everton’s Sam Byrne.

King names provisional U21 squad for Italy & Slovenia
http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/15969/king-names-provisional-u21-squad-for-italy-slovenia/

Republic of Ireland U21 Head Coach Noel King has announced a provisional 24-man squad for two upcoming UEFA U21 Championship Qualifying Round Group 2 fixtures against Italy and Slovenia.

The Irish face the Italians at the RSC, Waterford, on Thursday, March 24 (6.00pm), then travel to Koper to face Slovenia on March 28 (5.00pm Irish). Italy are currently top of the group with 13 points from five games but King’s charges were very unlucky not to secure at least a point from their meeting in Vicenza in October when the Italians secured a 1-0 win with ten men.

Ireland lost their next fixture 3-1 against Lithuania so King will be looking to his side to get back on form against the Azzurri in Waterford. The Irish squad will be reduced to 18 players prior to the fixtures.

Republic of Ireland U21 squad to face Italy and Slovakia:

Ian Lawlor (Manchester City – on-loan to Bury)
Danny Rogers (Aberdeen – on-loan to Falkirk)
Brian Lenihan (Hull City)
Tommie Hoban (Watford)
Glen Rea (Brighton)
Jack Connors (Dagenham)
Niall Keown (Reading)
Sean Hoare (St Patrick’s Athletic)
Kevin O’Connor (Cork City)
Darragh Lenihan (Blackburn Rovers)
Alan Browne (Preston North End)
Harry Charsley (Everton)
Josh Cullen (West Ham United – on-loan to Bradford)
Jack Byrne (Manchester City – on-loan to Cambuur)
Callum O’Dowda (Oxford United)
Brandon Miele (Shamrock Rovers)
Conor Wilkinson (Bolton Wanderers – on-loan to Newport County)
Shamir Goodwin (Crawley Town)
Josh Barrett (Reading)
Shane Griffin (Reading)
Sean Maguire (Cork City)
Sean Long (Reading)
Dylan Connolly (Bray Wanderers)
Kenny McEvoy (York City)

Good to see Lenihan back. I think Hoban is still injured, so he might pull out. Slight disappointment that Browne and Byrne are in this squad instead of the senior squad to be named on Friday, but they're unlikely to go France anyway.
