who were the other candidates?for young player of the year? Someone under 25 who played senior ball and had a good club career. Not many I'd say. Robinson? Maguire?

Its a tricky one
I would have gone with Josh even is he only played once , he was still man of the match that day
Alan Browne hasn't been very good

Just not a lot to work with. Next year should be more interesting...

This lad has been going around making things up for the past week in multiple threads. I don't know what his story is!

Can we quarantine him for 14 days in case it's infectious?
There's a certain, eh, form in a lot of recent posts that reminds me of departed posters of the past.

If its him or merely someone like him drifted in from a nearby forum, I'm all for it. Been a while since this place had me laughing.

Playing with fire there CTP, imho.
This forum is one of the only ones I know that has remained quality throughout its existence.
I don't think we should let anything jeopardise that!
As an aside, would we ever think of organising as a fan's group in some way? It'd be small but that would be the beauty. I'm not one of them but there are many many intelligent, eloquent, knowledgable fans here....sometimes I feel it's a pity that so many great comments and insights and opinions and so much knowledge spanning decades and important things disappear into the ether...

Oh you beautiful man.
There was one, we even had the foot.ie tricolour. This was the breeding ground for a lot of the 'fans' on the other group.

Is signing a new deal at Preston. I'm a little disappointed to be honest, I though it might have been worth his while to wait until the summer and see what comes up. Possibly there wasn't that much interest from higher level clubs, he is not a particularly high profile player.

Obviously waited and and waited until a higher profile offer presented itself but none was forthcoming.
Not the end of the world, he's well thought of by the current management and currently holds the captaincy.

He probably did wait, because who wouldn't....even out of idle curiosity or whatever?
But anyway, just look at the reaction on Twitter and see how embedded in the club and community he is, how happy the fans are and it seems like the correct decision.
I like that Alan Browne is going to be captain of a Championship club, a good club with a good manager, and playing football every week. That's good, in my opinion. Definitely.

playing alongside (or at least in a midfield with) moulmby aswell, hopefully. that can only be good for us.

Filled in at right back today due to injuries. Caught out of position multiple times, also conceded a free kick in a dangerous area that went unpunished.
Got involved positively going forward throughout but sometimes left his team shorthanded defensively on the counter as a result.
Always good to see how players do in other positions but based on this he wouldn’t be my first choice to play at right full in an emergency situation — definitely looked like a central midfielder playing at fullback.

he is a holding midifielder at best, with an eye for a goal. That's it, needs a move to Celtic

It appears that Browne is having a sustained period at right fullback with Preston. The club is going through a rough spell though how much is attributable to his move to that position is unclear.
I think he’s generally quite good going forward from a fullback position with his crossing in particular quite strong.
He also appears to be becoming more disciplined defensively as he learns to stay in the position as opposed to drifting centrally as he did at first when asked to fill in.
Probably not great for us as we lack quality central midfielders and have two of the best right fullbacks in Europe already.

Medial ligament damage in Good Friday's game; no surgery planned, but may not be available for any of Preston NE's remaining fixtures this season (LancsLive, 11 April).

Hmm. Full-back becoming an issue for June?
Browne doubtful, Doherty not getting his game, Stevens injured (and probably slipping down the pecking order anyway)
McClean maybe one last hurrah to get to 100 caps. O'Dowda, Coleman and Brady I guess also called up. But we need fresh blood here

Manning is the obvious solution, but Kenny really doesn't seem to like him
John83
16/04/2023, 2:24 AM
Brady is made of glass too, but if he has Coleman, Doherty, O'Dowda, and McClean, Kenny won't feel the need to experiment. We're definitely light if any of those gets an injury, but then that's true of most positions since we're a small country. The age profile is the bigger deal at wing back.

Browne won't be available for PNE's last two games. According to manager Ryan Lowe "he's finding it tough at the moment, the injury, it's not as straightforward as we thought it was. He's fine, he's doing gym stuff, but there's no way I was going to rush him unless it's a must. At the moment, with two games to go, definitely not. With four or five games to go, maybe so. At this moment in time he probably won't be back any time soon." (Lancashire Post, 28 April)
Browne having a good start to the season and getting plenty of praise from Preston fans as they sit top of the Championship. Got the assist for both goals last night as Preston came from a goal down to win 2-1.

I thought Alan Browne has looked an improved player alright. He is maturing well, and who knows he might get to play in the premiership with Preston North End ~ Though there is a long way to go ! !
And he's out of contract next summer too.

Fourth goal in ten games for Browne (and indeed fourth of the season)
Get the feeling he offers something decent to the squad if we stop playing him at wingback

I think he's the kind of player who, if we had a top level centre mid playing alongside him, could be very effective for us. Unfortunately we don't and he's not good enough to lead the midfield on his own, so he'll probably continue to be mediocre for us unfortunately. No end to our midfield woes in sight at present.

Could be so, yeah. Be interesting to see who starts in March with a new manager and Cullen/Molumby not getting their games at the moment. Similar issues at wingback too of course which may lead to him still being shoe-horned in there.

Surely any new manager is going to start playing two holding midfielders ( which a lot of teams are doing these days ) Is it, that there is too much to do in the modern game for 1 holding midfielder. Ideally of course if you were playing 2 holding midfielders they would be very good passers of the ball ( short and even better if very good long passers ) A lot of teams are playing 4-2-3-1 which of course can so easily be 4-5-1. Easy enough to play 1 inverted full-back ( very in vogue at the moment ) in that system as well if you have a players that can do that.
Serie A side Salernitana, who are bottom of Serie A, are showing interest in signing Browne it seems. Believe Browne is out of contract in the summer.

Were we kind of doing/trying that with Cullen and Molumby?

Has turned down a new contract at Preston which would make him their highest-paid player ever, and looks to be moving on after 10 years. Was named Player of the Year for a second time this year.

Interesting ~ ~ I suppose his next contract will be the biggest and most important to his long term future / earnings ~ ~ I suppose nobody could blame him for wanting to max-out on that, considering his age.

Time for him to move on anyway. I don't know whether he'll ever make the EPL but he deserves a shot at a Championship club where he'll have a fighting chance of promotion, which isn't really the case at Preston.

This is fair and correct. Nowhere near consistent enough for the premier League. Will have a good career seen out in the championship.

Thought he should have moved on three years ago instead of signing a new contract. Maybe he didn't have any decent offers at the time or out of loyalty stuck around.

Coventry City are keen to sign Browne, given Callum O'Hare's departure and the release of Liam Kelly. However soccer reporter Alan Nixon thinks Coventry and Sheffield Utd may yet fail to sign Browne, as PNE seem to be upping their offer in a bid to retain him. (www.coventrytelegraph.net)

Sheffield United probably his best bet out of those if he wants a crack at promotion in the next couple of years. They'll at least have the PL parachute money to rebuild and seem to have spent next to nothing in the Premier League.

If he's staying in England it would be interesting to see if he can make a late dash to Premiership for a season via a promotion with someone like Sheff United.

Wikipedia has him at 374 appearances for Preston since 2014. Surely he must be up there in terms of most appearances for a single club in England? He could have five years left him him playing for them.
