(I hope this is okay with mods)
Any of you that know me know I've quite substantially long hair and a fair sized beard.
Today, I've decided to start a charity campaign to shave it all off.
For all you Facebookers, there's an event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/296540147170592/
For those of you not on Facebook, here's the jist.
It's been three years since I've had a haircut or been clean shaven.
With this in mind, I've decided to do a sponsored haircut and beard shave to raise money for the Good and New Cancer Bus services and Finn Harps football club.
Finn Harps is something close to my heart, and we all have been, or know someone, affected by cancer at one stage or another.
The Good and New Cancer Bus runs a service for people from Donegal with cancer to Galway for treatment, as there are no cancer services in Donegal, and has been running for nearly 4 years now. The bus is sustained through donations from local people, no funding is provided from official bodies so support is very much needed.
The bus needs €1,000 a week to run and frequently gets to a point where without donations the service would have to cease within a few weeks.
Finn Harps are very close to me, and needs no great explanation as running costs mean the club need all the help they can get to keep the show on the road, and keep senior football in Donegal for the foreseeable future. I'd like my own son to have the same opportunity to grow up watching live football the same way I did.
My aim is to raise around €1,000 over the space of 6 weeks, all ending with a celebration music gig in a venue in Letterkenny, where all profits on the night will go to the cause.
I'll be accepting donations via sponsor-cards which I'll be printing up this week, and via online donations through paypal. If you wish, you can make a postal order alternatively, PM me for details on that.
Paypal donations can be made to nigel_hegarty@hotmail.com
Many thanks all.
Nigel
