was going to post just asking about the query on the Bohs mb below but then thought this could become a depository for all videos (where available) and/or discussion about great LOI goals.

Anyone remember this one and can give more details? Anyone know if the video is out there? I remember seeing this one too but not the details...

Does anyone the goal from the half-way line about 10/11 years ago for Sligo Rovers in Tolka Park? The player won possession with a tackle, used great skill to get space from an opposition player (presumably Shelbourne) spotted the 'keeper off his line and struck from the half-way line. This all happened within the space of 3/4 seconds. It was incredible. Of that type of goal (ie the Rooney and Beckham strikes) it was far more accomplished.

I can't find it on YouTube but it definitely was online before. If anyone recalls the player and game it would be easier to track. It may have been Mahon-era, possibly a midweek Cup tie? I'm sure it was for Sligo in Tolka.

John Gaffney's 30-yard volley in the same game was arguably even better.

Ah that's it. Good stuff.

Think the 'keeper there was Steve Williams. Best goal I remember is from Denis 'Skippy' Stephens for Drogheda, I think against Limerick in a cup match at Dalymount. It was one of those where the defender headed a clearence and it was volleyed in, except the defender headed it to maybe thirty plus yards from goal and Skippy leapt up in the air and volleyed it into the top corner.
Cue pandemonium in the Drogheda fans ranks.

Does anybody have a youtube of Ayman Ben Mohamed's goal for UCD last week?

Liam O'Brien's effort into the Milltown Rd end V Bohs, October 1985. Pure Genius.

In my opinion a better goal than Faheys all things considered...

This passage is typical LOI. From the ridiculous to the sublime. Take a bow, Nutsy.

Far side of the ground unfortunately, but here it is -

Second goal of the three. Might help to watch it in full screen on YouTube and up the quality.

One of my favourite goals is in here -

VyTcQosOFgQ
From 0:40. Four passes without the ball hitting the ground, followed by a half-volley home.

Actually, for a decent European goal and a random nostalgia hit, try our second against Velbazhd Kyustendil in 2000. Here from 3:30 -

Not sure about that, but it was a superb strike. Probably the best goal I've seen scored against Pats. I think Faheys was arguably a more difficult strike. Crowes fell nicely for him to hit on the half volley, Fahey hit his off the gorund. Two cracking strikes though, we can agree on that.

Liam O'Brien, what a player he was, I was lucky enough to see him play most of his career in LOI. Up there in my time with Rocky O'Brien, Barry Kehoe, Pat Byrne & Pat Fenlon as the best midfielders I saw, and all scored some great goals back in the day, prob less so Byrne due to his position, but no less a fine player.

John Boyle, I think it was, against Finn Harps about 5 years ago.

Trust me, it was a good one.

Denis Behans free kick against Finn Harps for Limerick in Finn Park about 3 years ago was even better. Left everyone in the ground completely stunned.

Sean McCarron scored one of the most unbelievable goals I've ever seen in Finn Park against Mervue United last season. Simply breathtaking piece of individual skill.

Unfortunately, no video footage of either of those goals.

Two stunning strikes indeed, the only difference for me being that you tend to see more strikes like Faheys than a half volley from the distance Crowe scored his. A brace off the back of two hatricks too, not sure well have the pleasure of seeing too many seasons like that in the league again. Both players a cut above the rest.

Just after he made contact both Lim Til I Die and I threw our hands into the air in frustration. "It was too hard and too high, it was going to wind up in orbit, Denis Behan hadn't done enough for us yet... OH MY GOD, BEHAN YOU ABSOLUTE BEAUTY!"

It really was one of those moments. I think everyone had the same assumption when it was hit. Like an absolute bullet.

There was a Cork match televised on RTE (I think) shortly before Behan moved to Hartlepool where he did something (from the sounds of it) similar. I think it was against Derry. A free kick centre-on the goal, hit like a rocket up and down over the wall and past the keeper before he could move. I'd never seen anything like that.

I've seen put the ball right through the wall on occasion too.

He would have won that thunderstrike thing on MNS easily if he hadn't been sold to Hartlepool.

Something along those lines, except there was only one or two people in a wall for Harps, seeing as the free was from inside the centre circle.

John Lester with a header from just inside the halfway line for the Drogs v Pats, I'd say around 2003.

No cameras were there I think.

Andy Myler with a lob against Limerick from half way the same weekend as David Beckham.

Apparently the Limerick keeper was doing toe touches on the edge of his area at the time. That's presumably why Beckham's goal is one of the greatest ever and Myler's isn't.

He was about 30 yards out and the keeper was on the edge of this box. Hardly top class...

On the Fahey v Crowe debate I think the fact that Fahey's was scored against probably the best keeper I've seen in this league edges it a small bit. But both are unbelievable strikes

Donal Broughan vs Finn Harps in 2002.

A mate of mine was a youths keeper around that time and told me that Broughan tried it again in training about 100 times and didn't even get close.

Always thought Fahey's goal was overrated. Great awareness and technique, but when a 35-yard shot with no shape or dip hits the middle of the goal, it goes down as the keeper's error.

I remember him being a bit further out than that. Still, impressive to score a header from that far out. Never seen one scored from any further in any game.
