Sol's been beating this drum for a long time and to a certain extent I'm sure he has a point - even managers like Ron Atkinson who demonstrably wasn't racist in his selection policies was nevertheless found espousing racist opinions when he thought he was off-mic. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a good few at the higher echelons in English football (and other countries) who think having black players is fine but they're not really cut out for positions of responsibility.

If we can glean nothing else from this article, however, it's that Campbell has an extremely high opinion of himself.

I read an article in one of the English papers saying that it is a widespread feeling among his former teammates that he was not captain material (based on his personal & leadership qualities I hasten to add, not his race or orientation). It's funny how he has such a thing to say just as he has a book coming out. Does he not have enough money already?

Well yeah, if he'd said when he was was still playing, he might have a point...
