Should Lennox have waited until the season was over?

I think so, but it definitely is a good idea to get a new contract before next season, Bohs might come calling yet !;)

I think he deserves it, and if he can find 2, maybe 3 more players, I believe the 3 year plan can be achieved.
I would like to see Dolan sign another central defender, someone like Colm Foley, SPAs best player last night, and a decent right winger, possibly Bobby Ryan, in time for next year.

Well done Pat Dolan.

being honest I'd wait until the middle of next summer and see how we're getting on then.

Dolan deserves a new contract.
He is doing an absolutely fantastic job.

Personally, I hope he's manager of the Rebel Army for many many years to come.

Good move by Brian Lennox to get Dolan to sign on now. Why wait until halfway through next season and have all the paper talk and speculation about will he stay or go ? IMO shows good planning and management by Lennox and the board.

Colm Foley - agreed.

Right winger - lets be honest, Ryan probably wont come to Cork, but I reckon either Fahy from SPA or Robinson fron Shams are targets who ccfc could realisticly get a hold of.

Re new contract. I would have thought it be better to wait until the fothcoming close season, but ill not complain about the fact its come now.

Re new contract. I would have thought it be better to wait until the fothcoming close season, but ill not complain about the fact its come now. They don't come much shrewder than Brian Lennox. I think the timing was spot on, maybe even a little late, TBH. By letting the renewal of contract go this late, he risked having Dolan poached by others.
Being realistic, that day is still going to come. Any club chairman across the pond would have to be impressed with the club's progress under his watch, even though a lot of the foundations were laid by Liam Murphy. They will compare CCFC with the high spending rule bending Shels, who absolutely depend on a good run in Europe every season for the foreseeable future to stave off financial ruin. They will see what Dolan achieved on very modest resources, and will want some of that.
If I was in Lennox's shoes, I would plan for Dolan's departure right now, by grooming an assistant from the in-house staff, even one of the players. It would probably take a good few years, but it would be worth it. If we develop Dolan's thinking and talent from in-house, we can look forward to a period of management and financial stability.

noel o connor, stuart ashton????????And maybe somebody a little younger, with Pat's passion. The idea would be that Pat would ask the trainee to shadow him over the next couple of years, like an apprentice manager.

I don't know the guy personally, but from what I have heard about him from others, he was the exact personality type I had in mind, and his commitment and passion speak for themselves.
And another thing, I think it would set a good precedent for players looking to their futures. Too many great players end up in lousy jobs after they quit soccer, which I always thought was a shame after giving us years of entertainment.

I find the idea that Colin T has been some sort of 'revelation' this season laughable. He's been the same steady player for years - and yes, he's had by his standards an above average season, but that's not to say that he's not been the same player for some time.

couldn't agree with you there antidub. I remember Colin as a very good right winger who used to chip in with vital goals, and then he did his cruciate, always thought he wasn't the same player since. This year since he moved into centre-mid his game has changed and his performance levels are back to what they used to be

I think that it's an absolute joke. He has achieved nothing yet and here is Lennox (who I used to think was a sensible business man) offering him an extension on the already handy three year deal he was given. City havent finished second yet this season and if they don't win the league next season then people will be calling for Dolans head again. There is no way to get rid of him then if he fails as if a new contract is signed then the club dont have the money to pay him off. A bit of premature decision on the part of the club.A bit of perspective here would not go to waste. Dolan has established his track record, and needs nobody to say it for him. The only way that Dolan is likely to leave City while under contract is that he is bought out by another club (which I think is a real possibility) in which case the buyer would have to pay Dolan's existing contract price to him, plus pay a penalty to CCFC, AFAIK. No way there for City to be left out of pocket, just short a great mananger. And that is the exact thing that Lennox is trying to prevent, so give the guy some credit!

I agree with this. Colin's release on loan to Waterford was no bad decision at the time - he wsan't doing it on the wing after his injury. Centre mid has worked out brilliantly for him.

We're doomed!
This is a poor business decision.
A lot can happen between now and when his original contract was due to expire. :(

Yes Peadar a lot can happen, not necessarily bad things - so it's extremely premature to use the word 'doomed' ...christ we could win the league this season!! FFS!

Wouldn't it have been better to wait until the league was decided before we give someone a contract based on the success they "could" have??

I agree with you there peadar. I think Dolan's done a very good job and i certainly want to see him at city for another few years, but I think giving him a new contract now is not the best decision brian lennox will ever make. I think we will win the league with him in charge, but I think City have rushed into this

I'll have you know I'm a very serious person!
We just need to keep everything in perspective, that's all.
Brian can't keep pumping money into the club without return.

I don't think Brian should be handing out any contracts until the season is finished.
We need to be sensible here and not lose the run of ourselves.
Hold the head Brian.
