Costa Rica look like they're a man up rather than a man down so far this half.

Any idea who's on the bench?

McLean 5 awful passes in a row.he doesn't look up at all.

Honest to God I think Roy Keane would still offer us more than these 2 fellas in midfield.... John Giles is still more mobile than Whelan!

This is really awful.thus is exactly why I didn't get carried away with the italy performance, granted different team but this is as bad as anything under trap and we have a man more.

forde was slower running than my father there

why cant i thank tricky colour or boys in green? have they put me on their ignore list :D

What was the costa rican coach doing there are half time?

I could not thank people earlier when I wanted too, I don't think the thanks button appear immediately takes a few mins it seems.

Red cards in these friendlies have no impact on the Finals...

especially when you won't be there ;)

Tbf, for Ireland, it's a meaningless end of season friendly...so everyone does the bare minimum.
Would be a lot more worried if a Costa Rican.

Except Costa Rica are. And in the Ecuador v.Eng game also, for instance.

And Forde, liability, right on cue.

I've been saying it since at least 2005.

But this is about more than Forde. For the 20 minutes of the second half, Costa Rica have been better than us in pretty much every area. They've destroyed us down our left for example. They've been better in centre mid. Forde doesn't play in those positions.

Penalty us!

poor penalty, too close to the keeper

paul_oshea

The Costa Ricans are really fired up for this not like the Italians and are completely dominating us with 10 men ...Robbie has missed a few of late....

Was just thinking when was the last time he missed a peno.

Stupid corner for them to give away.

Regardless of the penalty though, the concerns of the first 20 minutes still stand.

boysingreen

Didn't deserve a peno, but why wouldn't we miss it.

That was as bad a penalty i've seen since he missed against slovakia

And Whelan and Green who stared at Campbell for two hours before he played a very good through ball.

Still, mare for Fordey.

This has been very bad, but so be it. The contrast between this and Italy is clear and the lessons are there. That's friendlies. Hopefully O'Neill will bin this Trap-esque set-up and these two centre mids in particular.

Edit: Urgh, this game is turning into 'wan of those wans'.

Nice to see our centre halves splitting and the midfielders dropping back. Shows we're at least attempting to play sensible modern football.

well everyone on here had a go at me because I told them he is just a game away from making big mistakes.....and I was proved right but everyone was saying how great he was.

Just hope we somehow don't lose to ten men...

Campbell giving McClean the run around, this performance might end the "McClean as a full back" discussion before it really started

Long on for Doyle can only be positive. Wes for Robbie would be nice now.

Long for Doyle.

Won't make a difference if we can't get the ball up to him though.

paul_oshea
07/06/2014, 1:40 AM
The difference between this us our midfield which was the only positive we could really take as the Italians never got out of second gear after the injury. These lads are well up for it and giving us no time.

It's exactly the game that hendrick and meyler need

paul_oshea

If we made more than 3 subs it doesn't stand as a fifa recognised friendly

They could either have played this game or Portugal. Would you prefer them to have played tonight and missed that?

Eh?

Six is the limit surely? Belgium made seven against Luxembourg, which was one too many.

Is it not 6 subs? Belgium had their result voided last week because they brought on the 7th sub

it's three in competition football only, up to six in a friendly: http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/footballdevelopment/technicalsupport/refereeing/laws-of-the-game/law/newsid=1290827.html

Official competitions
Up to a maximum of three substitutes may be used in any match played in an official competition organised under the auspices of FIFA, the confederations or the member associations.
The rules of the competition must state how many substitutes may be nominated, from three up to a maximum of seven.
Other matches
In national "A" team matches, up to a maximum of six substitutes may be used.

Aye, it used to be 'unlimited'?
yeah, until Ericsson substituted the whole england team over the course of a game, including one player coming on and then later being substituted
you can still have more than six substitutes in a game, but it has to be agreed between both teams, and the referee before kick off

They changed it a few years back in response to teams like England taking the **** and using 14 subs.
